Need help. My interior lights aren't working at all. This first occasion was maybe a year ago for a few months then miraculously it came right. Now it has returned. May not be related but I seem to have a slow run flat on the battery so leaking amps somewhere.
Any ideas or help with troubleshooting? I fell asleep in physics right about "the electrons hold hands…"
Disregard. Busted Fuse 11, which doesn't explain the intermittent behaviour or the amp drain.
Edit: Confusion still reigns. Before I dropped the hood, I went to check that the off switch was working and it did. But when I released it it didn't come back on. I pulled the light and fiddled with it got some sparks which blew the fuse again. Replaced the fuse again but the hood light still won't come on. Further, the interior lights won't go off when I close the door and lock it, with the lights in the door control position. They do go off in the off position.
If the interior lights aren't coming on when you open the door, then the car is keeping the power windows powered even though the ignition is off, and it drains your battery w/ the quickness.
If I sit in the car with the doors closed and IGN off, the power windows won't work. When I open either door they do work. I think that is as designed?
So my lights still don't work when I open the door or turn off after a delay or when I lock it, but work fine when I manually operate them. I have confirmed the door switches work because the windows work when the door is open but don't when the door is closed (with IGN off). Help??

Take out the light units and clean the electrical connectors/contacts.
Sounds like it could be the dip switches in the doors...
My drivers side is a bit slow to react sometimes so the lights don't come on or there's a few minutes delay!
If I push the dip switch a few times the light will then come on.
Hope ths helps?
Thanks George but I'm pretty confident the door switches are working because the power windows get energised with the same door switch.
Thanks Pops, I'll give that a crack but it doesn't make sense to me that both don't work. I could understand if one was out; also they work fine, they just don't turn off when they should. Is there a relay or something that controls this function?
Wish I'd stayed awake on physics.
Also you may have a light delay unit fitted to the lights that may have gone faulty. Once you remove the light units check the wiring to se if one is attached.

Mine work exactly like this.

It could be faulty...
Just a thought, but does it work the same way from the passenger side?
Pull the light units out from the ceiling and see what happens when they're hanging. Might tell you if they're shorting out.
I had problems with the delay relay that pops mentions above and ended up removing it. The lights now go on/off as soon as the door is opened/closed. Here it is so that you know what you're looking for:

Yes, doesn't matter which door is open, the power windows become energised. Maybe a clue as I thought it was only the driver's side door which should do this. Anyone confirm?
I pulled the lights on each side and could not find a delay relay fitted. My car did have the delay feature i.e. when you open the door, get in and close it, the light would remain on until you started it, or getting out, locked it. Anywhere else the delay relay could be hiding?
A further clue is I'm having trouble with the luggage compartment light too. In jiggling it around to make it go, I'm burning out successive fuse 11s. Anyone know where this light is earthed?
The delay relay on mine was hidden inside the roof - next to the hole for the light unit and velcroed inside towards the front of the car. Mine was on the right side of the car - the key to spotting it is that extra green and brown wire (the other side doesn't have a relay fitted).
