Basically, it was more than wheel position. I wear gloves on the track and also find a wheel without thumb grips easier to control. The wheel that came with the car and the OEM wheels on the Turbo 3.6 and 996TT are fine for street driving. In fact they are all comfortable.

As for why I call it a 930S wheel? Just following the crowd.

A good thread on that topic:

and what the differences were between the "OEM" and "repo" versions including a response from Wayne @ PP:

+1 on the mod 7 in suede, much better for any track driving, also got a leather prototipo in less of an offset which is great for the street

There is an inexpensive factory porsche part that kills the warning light.

Sorry for being off topic, but does anyone know where I can get my steering wheel re-trimmed? I know alot of guys over the pond have a place they send theirs to. Is there a quality place to send mine to here in the US? Thanks.

Rey - I have not used him but a couple of local guys have used Tino Santoni and they were happy with the results. I believe it was ~$230 for leather refinishing.

Here's mine,
An OE 930S or I've heard it referred to as a Club Sport.
It's slightly off circular, flatter at the bottom so when spinning back it doesn't spin through your hands.
Not sure of the history of mine, it came with the car, possibly now 3rd hand and the leather has some damage to it. I've been quoted £325 for a re- trim, which seems a bit excessive.
I think Jack.Pe may have had a wheel re-trimmed for £130. Any recommendations?

(please ignore the awful gear ****!)
