Q: are the crush washers for Engine and Tranny the same - the part numbers differ but indie selling parts claims they are the same size and thickness ... true?
Is this a common rust spot? Also, where are the most common rust spots on a 964?
I have a question regarding that area of the car that has the rust spot. I have a humming/vibrating sound in that area when the car is on. Is there a fuel pump or something in that area that is on when the car is running?
I'm looking for a nice 964 and I was wondering if I should be worried about that rust spot. Is this the plate rusting? Any thoughts
That's the cover for the fuel pump. It's always rusty and easy enough to sand and repaint. Not to worry. It's like engine tins...if they are there, they are rusty, unless they have come out to be powder coated...
So dont think of that as the same rust you find on a body. Total non-issue.

If the humming is loud, it's likely just old hard bushings on the fuel pump. There was a thread ages ago about a DIY to rehab them...I would just buy a new fuel pump carrier and be done. (Unless you have a real problem with the fuel pump)

Thank you Goughary, I will look into purchasing that carrier/bracket.
