I stripped all the old foil off. Underneath is a brown wadding that dissolves into a mush when wet.
I washed and scrapped that away and you are left with the glue, which I removed with some paraffin and lots of elbow grease.

I wasn't to careful laying down the new foil as I figured it looked better with a crinkled finish.

um ok ... so foil off, then heat sink off, then glue off ... is there anything else in there?!
I thought it was just foil with the padding inside. Will have another look.

re the new foil, what thickness did you use? 1mm?

It's thicker that catering foil, possibly 2 to 3 times thicker, but not 1mm.
I'll find a link and post it up.

So funny, I also run a sport exhaust line with my 3.8 engine and almost got fire with the rear bumper! Thought I was alone with this issue!

I finally wrapped around with some alumminum paper from a chimney store and it has been going on without any trouble for several trackdays...

I'll keep my fingers crossed then, I don't want any thing melting back there.
