Singer on Jay Leno
#16
I thought Jay Leno was matter of fact about the car and asked great questions differentiating why it's interesting and summed it up quote well so people know the differences. Not unlike any other interview he's had on the channel.
If you could build a spare no expense 911 super car, what would it be like? It would be air cool'd, throwback styling, signature design cues, non filtered character and super car performance. This car is about the possibilities.

I have noticed Leno gets a little "terse". Hate to say it but the english guy at Singer was a little annoying the way he can't spit out his words. I am in a mood today. Bah humbug.

I can empathise with his problem. You spend years creating a car and have minutes to describe everything. It seemed like his brain was full of things to say and he couldn't organise the thoughts coherently in time. Maybe some media training would help, but then they seem to have no problem creating a desirable brand so it works anyway.

The Singer 911, hmmm... It's great and an odd ball that one.
Let's look at it from a performance stand point. There's truly nothing ground breaking. The car performs no better than a very well tuned/ modified 964. In the UK market I would put a highly tuned 3.8 964 with the suspension and brakes to match at £ 45K.
Now the singer retails at what, £ 250K base price? My view is that the Singer is a truly gorgeous piece of work but at £ 200K more for those beautiful touches I can't help but think the 964 is beautiful enough.
Besides we buy these cars for the thrill of the ride first and foremost - so what you're left with is a car that performs as well as another highly modified 964 at £ 200K less.
Now what else can you buy with that money? Let's say, I don't know a 991 GT3 £ 100,540.00 incl. VAT Does that warrant the extra money over a £ 45K modified 964? Well performance wise - YES!
So to some up my point, the Singer price tag is one that is purely based on something that is subjective - aesthetics. Whereas a 991 GT3 price tag is based on something that isn't just subjective - it performs better than a 964 also.
But wow - isn't that Singer just gorgeous.

Absolutely love Singer cars but the price tag does grate a little...especially as like Frank says, there's not much innovation in there over what is available in the open market.
But, they look immense...massive want!

I am absolutely in love and have been since the first time I ever saw a Singer 911. They're beautiful machines inside and out and if I could afford one, I'd probably have two in my garage

I know the guy that looks after these for the uk customers when they get shipped here 2 singers so far I think ? I can ask & I know from talking to him the order books are looking very healthy & there's one over soon & he's going to give me a shout so I can have a look at it : ) he did say that engine parts alone are big money from cosworth/etc without all the rest of the car that's new/replaced or custom made so I can see why the price is what it is....plus he said its just a fecking awesome car & drives so,so nice...I'll post pics if I can get permission from customer!
I know if my numbers came up the first "new"car buy would be a singer!

I thought it was a great video. In my business, I deal with a lot of high net worth individuals - not flashy Wall Street or Hollywood types, but quiet guys who built up over 20 to 30 years oil tool businesses and metals distribution companies and the like, and then sell those businesses for $100M or $200M. And then they buy what they want, regardless of whether or not it is economically justifiable, or how many slightly used GT3s you could buy for the same price instead. And there are a lot more of those guys out there than you realize.
...and one day I hope to join their ranks so I can buy a Singer

Lucky man! Bring a bib to catch your drool!
For 350 HP if it's costs more than what the rest of what Rothsport, TurboKraft, Unit11, Jaz, RedTek etc, etc, etc are doing then they're having a laugh.
Doesn't matter which way you cut it - HP is HP.
All Porsche enthusiast who modify they're cars having been grabbing the best parts from many generations of air-cooled 911s for years. Yes the Singer 911 has brought it to a much larger audience base than the Pelican, Rennlist messrs. Mr Dickinson knows that.
What makes Singer special imo is their use of aesthetic materials and designs. Cosworth and Ohlins are not the reasons I would buy a Singer in a heart beat.
