My goal is to pair my 6TT (buy another Pcar) with an earlier 911 and this beauty is in my sights. This 2nd car will be used for 90% street and the occasional DE. Any information appreciated. Thank you.

Reason: dumb 996 owner
I'm not sure I understand how an article about a tiptronic 964 converted to a manual relates to wanting to put a turbocharged water-cooled motor in an air-cooled car... I'd say those 2 projects are of a very different scale.

Sorry I was not clear. I want a stable mate for my 996. I have zero intention of doing what you mentioned above.
I’m serious as cancer. I have cash in hand, willing to travel out of state for a car and drive it home or have it shipped.
I WTB slate grey 911, 964 or 993
At the risk of sounding harsh, so do a lot of other folks.
If you don't mind a Cab, check PCA... There is an ad for a gray 911 Cab that just popped up and there is a slightly older ad for a gray 964 Cab.
i did the same thing ie paired the 964 as dd and odd track event with my 996 cup which I race.
Before I had a dual purpose ie 996 RS for occasional daily and racing but after a few events it became obvious
I needed a horses for courses approach. off-the-street-into-a-cup.html
All I can say is that for me its been a great decision and I get to enjoy the road more with a more involving drive
and the track more in a purpose built car that doesn't mind the hard work ...
plus my 964 has definitely improved my cup driving as its been easier/gentler on me and helped me learn to
correct oversteer, brake more gently, carry mometum etc.. dropped 2.5s off my cup times since I've been tracking the 964.
So on your thinking IMO
ps - if you like DE, would go for something hard-topped and maybe not so clean - save the cash for lightweights bits and fuel!
^^^ thanks man. I've been doing DEs immediately after the purchase of my 1st 911 fours years ago. Wet or dry, I'm continually sharpening my skills as much as possible at the Ridge and at Pacific Raceways. We even have winter track days when "weather permits" and when there is enough interest with other track enthusiast.
As for my initial post, It's been more than 2 years for the search for a air cooled so I'm guessing my search will come to an end soon.
