Default Euro Bumper

Can someone give me leads to where I can purchase the rear euro bumper center piece? If it's not available here in the U.S., can someone please assist me on getting one here across the pond? I'm aware that the bumper bar needs to be replaced and/or modified.

Is it me or did the search feature disappear?

Thanks,

Try emailing Gert at www.Carnewal.com for part number 964.505.123.02 European RS/Turbo 3.6 rear bumper center.

You should note that this piece will not fit with an American alloy bumper beam since the European beam extrusion is depressed in the center where the license plate goes.

One could modify the American beam by removing the plastic bumper buffers and cutting away the center of the beam though.

Schubee,
What's up?
I bought your 16x7 Fuchs a couple yrs back. So you've 'upgraded' to a 964, huh? Cool.

Maybe i'll see ya around town.

If it's an RS rear centre section you're after, I've just had one fitted to my car and somes mods were needed to the metalwork behind - nothing major I believe.

Cheers

Phil - thanks for the heads up. I read on previous posts that I can either replace the bumper beam with a euro part or modify the existing one. Did you do any of the modifications to your beam? If so, any suggestions or pictures of your mod? Since you live in the UK, you probably had the Euro version and not the US one.

Cupcar, Andy - thank you for the leads.

Mik911 - hey, how'zit going? Yep, I remember you. How's the Carrera? I just sold the SC two weeks ago. I still have the matching 16X6 Fuchs if you know anyone that's interested. I was going to do the common 3.6 transplant in the SC but ran into a killer deal on the 964. I'm converting it into my track/street RS replica. Yeah, I know I'll get slammed here from the purists but what the heck, it's MY car!! I've seen a lot of RS replica's on the long nose and early years so why not make one from a 964? Hey, are you doing the Big Bear run? Try and make it, it's on Sunday, August 10. Looks like it'll be a huge turnout with the R Gruupe, SCWDP, Gruupe B (is this group for real or what?) and such attending. It'll be fun! Hope to see you there.

Hey, where's my member status?

I think, but do not know for absolute certain, that the normal Euro C2's beam has an Aluminum extrusion that is the same as the RS/Turbo 3.6 unit, but the normal car has plastic bumpers that the RS/3.6 Turbo does not have. Simply removing these riveted on plastic parts makes the beam essentially the same as the RS/Turbo unit. Perhaps this is what Phil had done on his car.

The American aluminum extrusion on the other hand is thicker and different than either of the European parts. The problem is that the surface that the license plate mounts on is slightly recessed into the Euro part. Cutting away this area on the American beam would work but the beam would obviously be weaker after the cutting. Would be lighter though :-).

Sorry, my mods were done as part of an insurance claim, so I didn't see what was done. It did involve cutting metal from the beam. As far as I know the RS has a different aluminium beam to the standard Euro car.

Phil, please could you give more details or let me have the number of a contact to speak to? I was led to believe that the RS bumper (rear, centre) would be a direct swap....now you have me slightly worried...

Christer,

all you need to do with a UK car, or Continental for that matter, is to drill out the rivets on the three plastic mounds that hold them to the alloy bumper bar and detach them. That is all that is required, there is absolutely NO cutting of the bar required. I did this mod on my own car about a year and a half ago when I fitted the RS middle bumper section. Simple!!!!!

Good Luck,

Gary

Christer, not sure why Top Gun said it wasn't straightforward if it really is. I have to pop in there today so will ask.

Cheers

Schubee,
I really dig the RS look, even on newer bodies. Can't wait to see yours, when done. I heard about the Big Bear run, will try to make it.

Have fun

Christer

I've been to Top Gun and asked if fitting the RS bumper was straightforward. The guy winced and said 'not really' He said they kept the original beam but had to drill out the rivets holding some plastic spacers and then 'shave' some of the metal from the beam and some of the plastic from the bumper.

So I don't know why my car wasn't straightforward, while Gary's was. I've looked in the workshop manual but the diagrams don't show much. Guess it's just a case of trying it. Be interested to hear how you get on.

Cheers
