Euro Bumper
Hi again,
well it really was just the 3 middle-ish blobs on item 20 that I had to remove. I'm surprised that "top gun" said they had to cut the bumper as well!
I know some garages make a mountain out of a mo-hill though. I wonder if they really did all that trimming or it's just because it's an insurance job!?!
Anyway, I did it myself along with my teardrops. Also JZM said you couldn't fit RS roll-bars to a RHD C2! I had a look under my car at their place, suggested a solution, and low and behold they fit. Funny how things just work out sometimes?!?
Regards,
Gary

Gary,
Is the US bumper beam item 20A on the diagram? If so, it seems like if you remove the 2 middle-ish blobs you mentioned, I should be able to fit item 29. According to the diagram, it seems that the main beam (20 and 20A) are similar in size and thickness. Hmmm...I guess there's only one way to find out!
Thanks,

Item 20A in the diagram is the USA bumper beam, item 20 is the Euro bumper beam. Not shown is an RS bumper beam which, if pictured, would look like item 20 but without the 3 central plastic projections (#20 points directly at one of the projections I am talking about).
ALSO on the RS beam the central area, below where the 3 projections are in the Euro beam, is DEPRESSED the full width of the license plate area of the overlying RS plastic central part which is not shown but would be item 29 in diagram.
The RS bumper beam and plastic part used to be around $1200 before the dollar took it's dive, so $450 for used parts reasonable in my opinion if in good condition.
BTW the RS installation is 11 pounds lighter than a USA bumper if you use the original RS beam, tubular (non hydraulic) mounts and eliminate the diagonal bracing.

Since we got on the weight subject. Here's a shoot of my rear FVD Kevlar bumper beam and Aluminum buffer tubes. The weight of Kevlar bumper beam is 3.60 lbs. the Aluminum buffer tubes set is 0.60 lbs. totaling 4.20 vs 21 lbs. for stock USA setup (15 lbs. bumper beam + 6 lbs. hydraulic buffers set). In the front I replaced the USA hydraulic buffer at 6 lbs/set with the Factory Euro Steel bumper buffer tubes at 2.25 lbs/set I have the stock USA bumper beam in place.
Well I don’t want to confuse anyone with my installation but here goes. I just finished installing an RS rear bumper center piece last night on my US C2. I acquired the piece here in the states from MA Shaw. It’s made out of fiberglass and the fit was perfect. The only prep I had to do was drill the side mounting holes and dremel out the license plate light holes. The only downside on this conversion is that I cannot use the tow hook cutout on the RS piece since I have a US bumper beam. I need to, which I haven’t yet, cut a hole where the original tow hook is. I was able to complete this job without removing the bumper beam and L/R bumper pieces. I did however remove the muffler to access the side mounting plates. I also removed the center reflector to drill out the rivets that hold the center piece to the bumper beam. After the removal of the US center piece, the only modification I had to do is drill out the two black plastic things on the beam. I did not have to cut or replace my bumper beam for this installation. My bumper beam is the same as item 20A on the diagram posted above. I was surprised since some people did mention the difference in Euro versus US beam. Anyways, I successfully completed this last night except for the license plate lights. I will post some pictures later.
