I find reading the top side of the dip stick is the easiest, also made a mark at the half way point for reference.

When changing the oil I watch the temp gauge like I hawk. It will slowly rise to just over the 194 mark (on crg53's pic) and will then suddenly drop back as the 'stat opens and the tank mixes with the oil from the cooler. I then know I have a minute or two to crack open the oil tank plug. Jacking under the right front corner allows plenty of room for the pan and for the oil to flow downhill from the cooler.

Kos 11-12

The 1st time I changed the oil I had the same issue with the 15mm socket and ratchet getting hung up on the heat exchanger trying to remove the engine oil plug. Switched to another ratchet with a thinner profile (and that also pivots) and it worked fine removing the engine plug.

next is the gearbox & front diff oil and then bleed the brake fluid system, it's a C4...
