Southbound seat runners and mounts
Hi, I know a few of you here have fitted these so I've some questions
What is special about these seat runners? From reading a few threads I thought that these might be of their own design, for the 964. Having just spoken to them, the nice lady seemed to think that these are just regular recaro manufactured seat runners?
What is special about the southbound side mounts? They sell both their own design and the regular recaro branded item. What's different about the southbound one?
I want to fit Recaro PPs but before ordering anything from anybody I just want to make sure I've got an understanding of all the implications

Rob,
The Southbound ones are different to the Recaros. The most obvious difference is that they have a threaded boss to accept the seatbelt receiver for the tunnel side, so need to mess around with the RS mounting bracket or drill the tunnel. I also believe they mount the seat a bit lower in the car if headroom is an issue for you.

Ah - thats the difference then. Thanks
I'm 6'1 (185cm) of regular proportions in terms of body/leg length ratio. I'm guessing that the seat belt cut-outs will be fine with my shoulder height?

I have the runners and side mounts with Recaro PP in my sunroof deleted car. I have lots of headroom even with a helmet on, as I demonstrated this weekend. I'm also 6'1"

Recaro mounts are shaped.
There a little narrower.
The southbound ones have the seat belt mount and require a spacer between the seat and the mount.
Ive got the southbound mounts, with spacers. And use the seatbelt mounts.
Iam 6'2 and ive never had any issues with head room, even with a lid on.

Whats the difference between Recaro PP and Recaro PP (ABE) ??
From what I can gather, the ABE signifies some kind of type approval and is available in a far larger range of colour/covering materials. It is also not FIA homologated but since this is not a race car that doesn't bother me. But will a PP 'ABE' fit where a regular PP does?

I was lead to believe that ABE certified meant that the seat was approved for general use in vehicles. An ABE seat wouldn't pass scrutineering for racing but that's not an issue for you. Mine are ABE marked too.

Right, I've got the Southbound runners and side mounts here (they deliver quick!) and I'm looking at how the inboard seat belt fasteners attach to the seat mounts.
I can't see how they'll seat properly. The 'buckle' which I guess should be bolted to the welded boss won't sit flush. The boss should pass through the hole in the buckle since it is this that takes the strain and not the bolt which fastens the two together.
What am I missing here?

Hmmm not sure a washer will help. The hole in the buckle is sized to fit over the boss. The hole is therefore much larger than the fastening bolt. :-S
