Early v late rear dampers

That number is for a 1991 on covering bellow!!
No number stamped onto the damper side wall?
As you only have the damper it does really matter how many holes fix around the top mount!!

Pervy,
No, there's no number on this damper just a Bilstein sticker. It does, however, have three top-mounting studs.
So, are you going to put me out of my misery and reveal who you are?
cheers

Oh so its a Billy?
Billys were only fitted by Porsche to the RS, that came out in the 91 year so they will be the later ones unless they are the Billy sport versions that are available on the aftermarket for all years!! So basically you still don't know do you!! Any numbers on the shock at all?
I would tell you my identity but Im afraid I would then have to kill you.....

I suspect, then, that it's an aftermarket one. The fact that it has the three mounting studs, suggests that it will fit my car.
Ah, found a number, but it's very, very faint - 803-1547-?000. And now I've got an oily keyboard. D'oh.
Umm, death seems a bit extreme. I guess you're a Porsche parts supplier?
Cheers

Phil,
You should definitely fit them yourself. It's bound to have a few skinned knuckle / can't get that bolt undone / why have I got these parts left over type moments and that makes much more interesting reading than "took it in on Monday, picked it up on Wednesday".
Think of your poor readers!

Just on the Bilstein website. '1547' corresponds to the later cars. But then why does it have just three mounting studs. Could it be that the top mount has been replaced?

Dave, I'd much rather fit them myself. Just need to find time. Would you believe, I'm writing about the CityRover at the moment....

The 1547 is the later shock, 1735 is the earlier one. BTW the later shock does have the 3 stud top mount so you do have a correct pair in the shock and mount combo. Bummer eh? Still maybe they will fit a Rover?.........

Definitely a bummer. Yep, I could fit them to a Rover and raise the ride height to make my own Streetwise
Don't suppose they could be modified to fit my car?
If not, anyone need a pair of lightly used 91-on rear dampers?

My 1990 C-2 rear dampers are the early version, which are longer overall then the 1991 dampers. They also have a modified 3 bolt mounting flange. In other words they are not interchangable. They can be fitted, late to early by drilling new mounting holes in the rear shock tower. Hope this helps

If you could find some new / used sport konis you will never regret it. I love my present set-up! Only, however fit all four or keep original. The rears are easy- just take apart the stuff in the way, which again is no big deal. what IS a big deal is loosening the bottom fixing bolts. I needed a four foot cheater bar, but I suppose I could have used my iair impact wrench. If re-using original springs, you will also need a spring compressor- again no big deal.

Well, happy days. It seems that the dampers I have here have been modified to fit the early car. It's just a case of repositioning the three studs (yes, it is just three on both early and late types)
