Default Bilstein HD Rear bushing - spherical replacement?

Anybody else have this problem?

I know that replacement bushings are available from Bilstein, but I'm not too impressed that the bushing looks like this after only 5 years and 22k miles. Anybody tried a spherical bushing replacement? Is this much of a ride quality impact, nvh? Know what the inner/outer diameters are?

They are definitely available, some of the Motorsports Bilsteins and H&Rs come oe w/ spherical joint lower connections

Those damper bodies look like they've taken a beating from the elements.

I think any unsealed spherical bearing you put on there will fail just as quick or quicker than the bushings.

Vandit- just some good old New England winters!

Just chatted with the Bilstein folks. The bushing part numbers are E4-B46-443 for the rear HD shocks (new p/n 24-015479, old p/n F4-B46-1547-H2). $10.53 each. The Bilstein US number that I ordered them from was- 858-386-5900. Should be a snap for my local shop press them in.

I looked into spherical bearings but had heard that lower solid mounts transmit quite a lot more nvh, much more than upper solid shock mounts. I have no idea why. Also, there is no easy way that I could see to seal them up from the elements. So rubber replacements win.

A recent tip from Chris Franklin at CoG. Seal the bush with some durable wax to stop water ingress, corrosion of the metal allows rubber to delaminate, monoballs would have lasted about 6 months subjected to those conditions.

Bumping an old thread.

Does anyone know the size press tool to use to press out this bushing? And where would one go to shop for that size press tool?

Some poly bushings for these would be great.

Can't you just make an adapter for a regular HF press? I'd try to burn that rubber out or drill a bunch of little holes in the rubber till it gives.

It's a 39mm metal sleeve with the rubber inside that. I have a few on their way from bilstein, but yes, a poly replacement would be great. And has to exist. Should be a common size

I'm gonna do some searching. There's got to be something in that size.

What's the OD?

Don't use poly, rubber will outlast poly

Do you think a spherical heim/rose joint would outlast poly?
