1991 C2 5-spd in OH 16k
I am sure many people have seen the CL ad ( http://athensohio.craigslist.org/cto/3970269441.html ) but I figured I would post since I PPIed the car. The seller is an older gentleman who hasn't owned the car long but was nice enough to drive the car 1.5h for my PPI. I had Auto Assets do a basic PPI. I was planning on proceeding to a leakdown/compression but the basic PPI showed the car was more of a project than I wanted.
The pictures indicated the car could really use seat covers and a shifter. I also figured it probably had tired suspension and old tires because of the mileage and the fact it hasn't been driven all that much in the last few years. The shop confirmed both those suspicions.
Here are the things that made me shy away from the car. The shop indicated the car had a repaint of questionable quality. Specifically he mentioned one of the doors had notable paint defects from a sub par job. He also mentioned that one of the rear quarters had been damaged and either repaired or replaced. Mechanically the car had a receipt for a new camshaft and resealing the engine about a year ago. This would be fine except the car is apparently already leaking oil from some of the covers that had been resealed. The shop also had some concerns over why the cam needed to be replaced in the first place. He mentioned that it may have been due to the use of low ZDDP oil. That made me wonder about other wear in the engine that hadn't been addressed.
All in all I think the car is still well worth 16k. 16k is pretty much the cheapest C2 5-spd 964 Coupe I have seen with similar mileage since I have been shopping (about a year). I simply don't want a car that has an "ok" repaint and an accident involving the tub that I know nothing about. For me this was $100 well spent.

Sounds like a great driver for someone who is willing to get their hands dirty and turn some wrenches. I'd do an oil analysis and see what that said. If the oil is okay and the compression/leakdown numbers are acceptable, then that selling price leaves a bunch of extra coin to really transform the car.
