Thumbs up Electrical system problem

Here's the sad story of my '91 C4.....
Battery stopped holding a charge
Battery replaced by manufacturer
Alternator light on intemittently
Battery still will not STAY charged
Checked all the ciruciuts in the fuse box for amperage draw
All's well with the circuits
Replaced the alternator and the battery stays charged...sort of
Alternator liight comes on when the car sits in the hot sun and is started
The light stays on until it's returned to the garage and sits long enough to cool....alternator is apparently not charging when the light is on
Can anyone think of anyhting other than the voltage regulator that might cause this problem????

I love the beast but I'm ready to kick her to the curb at this point.....

My first thought is not to necesarily trust the new alternator.

Also check all of the earths or grounds , they can corrode and give trouble , but I reckon the replacement alternator is dodgy.
