Default 993 Uprights or Just Use Adapters - What Would You Do??

Can I trouble all of you for your opinions on which way I should jump with my brake upgrade?

I currently have a full refurbished in red set of 993 carrera brake calipers, a pair of 993 carrera (not RS) alloy uprights with ABS sensors and a set of unused caliper adapter brackets. I have two options as I see it:

1. Fit the 993 calipers with the 993 uprights and 993 305mm discs along with the new ball joints, track rods, wheel bearings, etc. etc. which that mod entails.

2. Fit the 993 calipers with 964 turbo 322mm discs using the adapter brackets I already have and save myself the hassle of changing all the other parts.

On the rears I will be fitting the 993 calipers with 964 RS drilled discs. This project is 70% vanity/look and 30% for performance, hence why I didnt bother with 993 turbo calipers. I don't feel like I need the last word in braking power for my mainly street use car... My standard 964 brakes are really good enough anyway...!

With option 1 I get a nice lighter alu 993 setup but will it make any difference to the car on the road? With option 2 I will get bigger discs which I probably will notice but I have to use adapters, which I don't really like. I like the idea of having the later 993 front end suspension wise - I'm just not sure why...!

Sorry if all this sounds like the musings of an idiot. Probably because they are. The more I look into the 993 conversion the more confused I get. Especially as my car is a C4 so is slightly different with drive shafts in terms of ABS sensor gears, etc.

What would you do??!

By the way (I know you all love pictures):

I fitted 993 calipers all round on my C4, only difference is I went with the smaller 928S4 discs. Like you, mine was a lot to do with look. I would keep it simple especially as the shocks will not fit either!! I think if I were going to go to the effort of fitting different uprights I would go with the 993 RS ones.

Strega might have nailed what was nagging at the back of my mind... Maybe I'm wasting my effort with std 993 uprights?

So, does question become, for those with 993 RS uprights, what are the real world drivability benefits of 993 uprights??

And I know it's supposed to be reduced bump steer, but bump steer is not really an issue on my car now anyway... Is that all there is?!

993RS uprights and matching outer tierods are used on low cars, 993 on normal height cars

as you approach 124mm front ride height from normal 144mm(for 993) or 165mm(for 964) the RS components become more desireable

My car is lowered, don't know exact height though... How do I measure? I'm using Eibach springs on Bilstein HD's... Is this likely to be low enough to make RS uprights worthwhile?

will someone orient me with regards to this? i have seen this description before but plead ignorance with regards to the measuring points. maybe a real photo or link would help. i don't want to measure off the fender lips, it's too variable.

Thanks power up. Wish I'd seen this in the morning!

I measured from here:

So looks like I was about right. However, the dimension I got was 100mm. Seems too low to me based on Bill's post?

My car looks like this:

Not sure the ground was level enough. I had a pretty empty tank too. But I don't think I have bump steer issues...

Stan I went through this the other week. The front does look too low. IIRC RS is 128mm

Some of the things I did:
* Removed the shark fins to measure accurately for the rear.
* I made up a measure using some threaded bar and an old bit of fuel hose.
* Rock the car after each adjustment till approximately right.
* take her for a spin and then check again.

Found this old thread to bump I've had similar questions. I have 993 uprights (not RS) as well and an extra set of 964 stock ones...I'm working on a way to measure any differences. What I'm looking for is the possibility that the wheel centerline/bearing is raised at all in the 993 unit compated to the 964. 5-10 mm, even. If so, I intend on assembling it to so some bumpsteer measurments at RS ride height. They are absoutely a lot lighter than the 964 ones, so if you are already intending on buying new balljoints and other parts for your refresh, it seems like the 993 units could make sense if you can source them for a fair price. Does anyone know definitively, if the height is different for the 993 vs 964 units?
