HELP! Need alternator fan, pullys, shims, etc.
Warning: Don't put off that alternator fan bearing replacement. Replace it when you first hear it start to go!!!
I replaced mine a few years ago and I couldn't believe it was going out again. (Maybe bad belt adjustment?) I thought I would have a few days before it really got bad, but it failed before I could change it. Threw one of the belts on my way home from work, but I thought I could limp home since the fan was still working. I did make it nearly home before the bearing locked up on the fan side, spinning the pulley on the alternator shaft and wallowing out the pulley halves while cutting a groove in the alternator shaft, fan grinding the housing and breaking a fan blade and, of course, throwing the other belt.
If that weren't enough, the broken belt caught the belt sensor and tore the top out of it and, finally, caught the wiring to the hall sensor on the distributor, ripping it off and breaking the connecting wires inside the distributor.
Whew! One of my worst days in a 911.
So, anyone got any used parts they could sell. Fan is hardest to find and I may need to go with a new one if I can't get lucky here. Hall sensor out of an old distributor and some outer pulley halves and shims would sure help.
Hope someone can help.

Ouch, I wondered what caused failure so quickly. Don't forget to use the kricket tool to measure the belt tension properly upon re-installation of the belts. There is the TSB to guide you. I found it very easy to use the tool to measure the belt tension.

Babalouie - just a little noise on starting, first very faint, then a little more. Nothing like the first one with the metal singing of the fan touching the housing from time to time.
Yes, I should have used the cricket, but I didn't have one. I guestimated based on 30 years of older 911's. Apparently not a great idea on the 964.

Here's a nicely refinished fan with hub and bearing on Pelican -

Perhaps make him an offer.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear that altarchsa...
I almost put this off... glad I didn't. I went the new bearing with a good used fan way...
Hope you get the same opportunity. The Pelican used fan looks great and price seems cool too.

This is what I've got.
it's a bit ugly looking, but everything worked / spun true when it was on the car (a few years ago now).
I think the two smaller bits are spacers from the assembly, but to be honest I don't remember. Can anyone confirm? They are thick and cone shaped.

PS - altarchsa - your PM box is full.
Thinking about it, I must also have the larger pulley with the holes in it, as I replaced it with a billet one from rothsport. Didn't see it in the parts bin though...
