Default Spare Wheel info for 964

Hello all - after a bit of help as really dont know the answer to this

My 964 C4 is missing its spare wheel and a load of tools. I am looking at trying to acquire a new one cheaply from one of the usual 2nd hand parts retailers and possibly off ebay.

Have seen the following two threads below but really want to understand if there is difference between all of the wheels listed. Could I say put a 996 space saver in a 964 or whatever? Also does anyone have an authentic photo of a 964 wheel....and are 964 spare space saver wheels the same as on the 993?

Many thanks in anticipation

The 964 has two spare alloy wheels listed:

928 362 030 02 for 964 >91 and late 944s
965 362 030 00 for 964 <91 and 993s

I would guess that these are 16” and 17” respectively.

Have a look in the relevant PETs

You will also need to buy a compressor if you decide to go the spare tire route..

Tire Weld will be worthless when you blow a tire just outside Deer ******, Idaho, or anywhere else for that matter.

Was just thinking the same thing after today, when my tire blew out at 85 mph- and I didn't have my space saver.

For anyone looking, check with Mike at Autobahn in San Diego. He had a bunch of these available last time I checked.

Please don't use the tire weld junk. If you have nice rims you will not be happy when it is time to swap out tires and you will probably get a nice bill for removing all the gunk and getting the wheel to balance properly after. Also the spare is an integral part of the crashworthiness of these cars. For track use with roll cage remove it but for street use I would leave it. If you run larger brakes than stock you will need the 17" dia spare.

Does the 17" spare fit in the same space as the original (1989-91) spare? I've ditched mine since it won't fit over my brakes.

Question - would the 16" spare fit over the larger rear brakes?

Default 1 inch spacer works with 16 or 17 inch spare

The solution for running big brakes with the space saver tire is to use a 1 inch bolt on spacer. That spacer will easily nest atop your spare and take up minimal space. Of course you'll need five (5) regular wheel nuts to bolt the spacer on the hub before bolting back on the space saver tire. I run 332mm front brakes and my 16 inch space saver tire fits just fine over the brakes when I use the 1 inch spacer. I run the regular (299/298?) rear rotor. Because there's far more clearance with the rear brakes even a larger than stock rear rotor may not pose a clearance problem with either 16 or 17 inch space saver spare plus the added spacer but I can't swear to it.

Here's the 1 inch spacer neatly nested on top of the 16 inch spare
