Gents,

I'm literally in a bind. The engine is dropped but I can't get it out of the car.

The longitudinal slave cylinder (C4 only, driver's side, top of transmission) is binding and will not slide out.

I've tried gobs of penetrant, leverage with pry bars, mallet, twisting, pulling, you name it. It's wiggled out a just enough that it still won't come out entirely!

I think there may be a leak in the cylinder because there is a lot of gunk and material caked on the surrounding area.

This is terribly frustrating. A mate and I have spent at least 90 mins trying the get the shift tube to separate from transmission, but the slave won't budge.

Any thoughts?

My suggestion to cliff by phone was to heat the case with a heat gun (reluctant to use flame on an AL case).

The first time I dropped my C4's engine, that slave cylinder was difficult to remove too. Eventually, we were able to get it out. I would be tempted to clamp some vice grips to the barrel of the cylinder and then use a pickle fork to try to lever it out.

Good luck and keep us posted on how it turns out.

Heat and good penetrant. WD40 and the like will not do it.

Thanks guys. I've given it another good soak with Aerokroil and will let it stew overnight.

Tomorrow I'll pull out the heat gun. Pickle fork and vice grips is also a great suggestion.

Went through same issue with mine. I hope no issues with yours as these are rare and NLA (at least as much as I could find).

Free at last, free at last!!

Got the slave out this morning. More penetrant, heat gun and twisting with vice grips.

Once it was free the engine popped out easily. (I will admit there was some chest pounding and whooping!)

Will post more pics and details in my other thread.
