Gday Frank

looks a nice road trip that

- how are you finding the mpg? Is it still reasonable ok? or should i not be asking these types of questions? LOL

- I think it might have been lucky you couldnt make it to Spa as I reckon those magnesium wheels would have been the shape of a decagon taking the route through Lille that we took. It would have ended in tears i reckon

- I did ask Topaz to move my yellow F50 out of the way when they were taking photos but alas....looks like they caught a glimpse of it there in those detailing photos.......haha

Tell us more about the engine's characteristics. I like the comments about the idle, and needing more revs to sound happy. Are you happy with the new exhaust system?

I want that Momo wheel!
Hi Jet,

Well you're the inspiration - all your road trip pics are stellar. Cheers,

The engine is a happy sleeper. She's quietish and easily controlled at strolling speeds. There's a maturity to the sound. The torque & hp come on cam above 4k - she doesn't feel high strung up there because the torque is so high up it is just relentless power. At that point the exhaust and induction noise is mental.

However at 2,500 rpm the exhaust booms horrifically - on a short journey no problem.

Soooo since I won't compromise performance I'm gonna get a set of radio ear defenders for long trips

While swooping about the alp passes I crossed a 996 4S. It just couldn't keep up in the bends or straights. At one point he just recovered the rear end while trying to keep pace, a lot of tyre smoke!

I finally pulled over for the view he pulled up. A 30 minute chat later, he was still shocked about what had just happened.

I felt a very proud moment - thinking back I just can't stop appreciating how these cars can be modded so far as to be modern day performers/ destroyers.

End of day - the car is a result if this great forum; period. It all started here and if it ever ends it'll be here.

Absolutely stunning car, Frank! Simply beautiful. Those gold BBS wheels have really grown on me too - especially on the brilliant black car.

Now, could I somehow coax you into losing those dreadful stickers?

The alarm packed up a while ago - so a Scorpion alarm/ tracker will be going in soonish to keep the insurers at bay. The check strap that was repaired by Specialised Paintwork has broken again - forcing a dent from the inside out in the driver's door - not happy. Anyway she'll be sorted sooooon.

Well I think they're stellar - the sidewall rigidity is great. Torrential down pour - no issue.

Great car, great story and superb results!!

Great advert for Topaz, BB looked like she was fresh out of the box. Should have got this done after the road trip.

I would have loved to have seen the P car duel!

I bet that made it all worth while seeing that 996 disappear in your mirror with a very disgruntled and confused driver!

As ever, reading the BB thread has enlarged my wish list and realigned my thinking on just what is possible with these great cars.

Well done Frank, job well done.

Just waiting for the video now.

Frank,
The booming of the exhaust at 2500rpm was something I suffered years ago with my 3.2 Carrera on B&B headers & silencer. The cause is usually collision of the alternate left/right exhaust pulses in the centre of the silencer. I cured the problem by re-engineering the silencer with a proper 2-into-1 spiral merge in the middle of the box.

Also, don't accept low mpg numbers. All you need is are the throttle bodies balancing perfectly then fine tune the fuel tables for constant speed cruise between 2000 to 4000rpm. You can easily do this from uploading the Motec datalog and fine tuning of the main fuel load table. My 9m engined 3.8litre 993RS ran at 27-28mpg on a cruise through North Wales on the way to Mondello in Eire, Marc's 996GT3RS on the same journey did 28-29mpg alongside it.

Enjoy!

Thumbs up

Very nice Frank, Topaz may well be getting a little extra business when I finally get my door handles sorted! (every spare hour getting spent doing 2-wheeled miles at the mo running the new toy in)
