Default 964 Roller

Looking at a 964 roller with 211,000mi on it for a backdate project. Its in seemingly great condition, just lacking a motor and tranny. What do you think its worth?

Also, i'm looking to build a very capable street car....just a fun weekend driver. What motor would you use? A modified 964, Variocam from a 993 or S...any thoughts, help with direction would be appreciated.

It all depends on budget. But I would look into doing a 3.8.

You can build a 3.8 out of a 964 or 993 motor, it all comes down to how much you're willing to spend

I would consider a car with 211k and a good motor to be worth somewhere around $15k. I'd take $10k off at a minimum for the motor.

+1 you're going to pay a huge pile of money just to get a stock motor and transmission to plug back in there. Not to mention all the ancillary parts that are inevitably missing when huge components of the car like that are swapped around. I don't think I could pay more than $5k or so for a vanilla narrowbody 964 shell.

You might do better to look at a high miles complete car (maybe one that needs an engine rebuild?) that way everything you need to base your build on is at least present. These aren't like old BMWs where a $1000 shell and a $2000 motor can make you a $5000 car with a little bit of elbow grease.

I think if I were starting from scratch on the motor there would be three things I'd want for sure:
1. Varioram (or... IRTBs)
2. Modern aftermarket engine management and ignition
3. Single mass flywheel.

FWIW, I agree to some extent with ChaseN- these cars are complicated and there are a kabillion parts you'll need. Keep that in mind (and maybe have a look at the oil plumbing diagrams for a dose of reality )

I too, looking for a 964 roller (not motor or tran) and my experience, and I've looked at plenty, they tend to be priced in the $6k to $8k price range. The only thing thou is most roller I've found says" all complete minus motor and tran" however most have tons of other good bits missing like mirrors, gauges, on spare tire wheels, electrical bits, etc.

So, just be very careful when you look at a roller, sometimes buying a whole car in running condition may turn out to be a better inevestment even if selling the motor and trans at a later date.

My $0.02

5-10k depending on body, paint and title.

I have been paying 10-20k for titled 67 Mustang rollers and 1969 Camaro convertible rollers thus 5-10k for a titled rust free 911 body is a good value and I expect to them to increase in price with time.

Everyobdy in the muscle car world wants 67 mustangs and 69 camaros.
The 911 is no different.
People in the porsche world will want air cooled 911 hot rods in the future.

Just look at Magnus and Singer with 964 bodies...
