Default immobiliser keys

Just realised that although I have a spare key i do not have a spare immobiliser key. Mine is unmarked but looks like this one, does anyone know how I can get a copy made?

Yep. You need to speak with Hamilton Palmer (www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk). They will probably ask for a serial number for the unit which is allegedly found on their unit under the left front seat.

Just called them...£54!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for a crappy little plastic key. What a massive rip off. I'm going to see if i can find the code and then with that I can order a replacement at any time IF i loose my current key.

Kinda takes your breath away huh? I understand that the cars shipped without an alarm and HP were commissioned by PCGB to retrofit when each was imported.

I contemplated replacing mine with a more insurance-friendly system but have bigger fish to fry first. I rather resent the way that insurance companies seem to think that if a "qualified" installer fits your alarm system it will be somehow better than if you do it.

Anyway, look at it this way; you could clip a kerb and ruin a tyre any day of the week and it will cost you a lot more that £54...

Same here, i ended up deciding to replace the hamilton palmer alarm rather than ply anymore money into maintaining an already old system. My sunroof module failed so would not work and relatively cheap toad full approved alarm which is insurance freindly gave me the benefit of remote central locking via the key fob for not much money fitted. Worth checking first.

I got about ten hamilton & Palmer immobilizer units boxed sitting in my garage for years lol only problem is the immobilizer keys are different they are round touch keys called the dallas key? in the kit comes two black keys and one red master key which is used to program spare black keys. I would check with H&P if it is as simple as ordering another key and will it come pre- programmed or do you have to learn it ? Because if it is the latter then you need the red key to make it learn.

They told me simply send the existing key, or the code if I can find it and they send a replacement key. Cost for each Key is £54. Anyhow I have now found the code so worst case scenario I will just order a new key if I loose the old one. I thought it would have been £10-15, so buying a spare would have been ok, but not at that price. They are just taking the ****.

Any chance of some more details about the system you went for?

If memory serves, the 'learning' system is a little different to the OP's (and mine). This one only has the delicate little fobs that insert into a connector in the steering column cover and no remote locking.

I share your pain - though mine is worse(!) because I cannot locate the code - meaning I have to send them a key. To try and be charitable to HP, they discontinued this system years ago and there's one bloke there who I believe programs keys as and when customers order. It's not business that they want to do - though if I were them I'd do something like offer a big fat discount on a new system installation rather than take the p*** in the price of a £5(max) plastic encased IC.

Any chance you could tell me exactly where you found the code?

Cheers,

Z

Heres what i did, after doing lots of reading online and reviews / comparisons, i went with Toad Ai606 thatcham cat1 alarm/immobiliser.

Seemed on balance to be best one for me and nice to have central locking from the fob and simple option of locking without internal sensors active etc ect. Also the alarm LED took place of original which has different colours for alarm triggered etc.

I paid about £100 for the alarm from supplier on ebay and about £120 to get it fitted. I changed as i was not confident in my original immobiliser key / system and didn't want to get stranded.

Saying that i have a mate with just the pcb part left and the contact pins and never let him down so far!

To me the costs were not too high for what i got out of it.

Link to the same supplier i used here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOAD-Ai606...-/310153874765

Hope this is useful

Actually I don't think £54 is too bad for the key but as you have two I wouldn't bother buying one as I presume you only have two ignition keys so thats one to use and a spare set right?

I liked the H&P system in my 993 - old but retro and matched the car. My 964 has obviously been upgraded in the past with a more 'modern' system - A Sigma 'S' Series single button remote.

Back in the 80's I fitted a couple of Harry Moss units and a Cobra!

I'm also looking at the Toad system. Could be an interesting little project.
