While Engine is Out...Question
OK Listers, I have a fun question for you...
I'm having some work done on the 964 and am wondering what else I should consider while the engine/transmission are out. I am primarliy having a knotchy/grinding/sticking shift from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 addressed and am already having the following done, but what else should I look at while it is out.
1. Transmission opened and issue addressed
2. Replace Rear Main Seal (it is leaking)
3. Valve adjustment & install RSR o-rings on rocker arms
4. New Chain Cover gaskets
So, what else should I look at without adding a bunch of cost?
Thanks,

The slide begins....
If my engine was out, I would order the engine mount brace and have that welded and powder coated while I was there.
New motor mounts? (I prefer Wevo)
O-rings and gaskets (oil breather, oil temperature and oil pressure senders) on top of engine? Cheap and easy to do while it is out. Cheap and hard when engine is in.
Engine sound pad, easy while the engine is out and hard when engine is in.
Wheeeee!

^^ sound like a good list. Might as well take off your intakes & ISV and clean them out nicely, check the rubber sleeves and clamps - two of mine were cracked/ing - about 2hrs to release the 16 clamps and remove intakes (a couple pipes on the back side and throttle body re air filter housing) clean them and replace and you're done. A couple good thread on the subject - just search.

Now that I can bleed my annular bearing (the hydraulic throwout bearing) standing up from the engine compartment - I've often thought this would be a GREAT mod to perform while an engine is out. Cheep also.
Perhaps merely extend a line from the bleed fitting at the clutch slave up into the engine compartment. A bleed nipple could be placed at the end of that line, and a c clamp or two could hold the entire assy wherever you wanted it.
Clutch bleed easier and faster than a guy could do one brake caliper.

get all the tin powder coated especially the ones behind the engine as that one is hard to remove once engine in place. also give everything a good clean now you can reach parts that you could not with the engine in. Pull starter and re grease shaft so it does not stick.

How old are the spark plug wires? You can buy just the wires for around $150, and PROPERLY run them thru the labrynth on top of the engine.
Also, I agree that the oil sender o-ring and breather gasket should be replaced.
