What used-car alternative would you buy for Subi BRZ money?
I did briefly consider a VW R32. The reality is I only ever wanted a 911, so I really didn't think too much about other cars in the 20-30K price range. I like the question though....
964 mentioned @ 7:00.

I finally got around to watching this.
I don't know what those guys are smoking saying that a 964 would require more investment to be able to take to the "track" than a BRZ/FRS. It doesn't "come out of the box" ready to "track"? Are they stupid? It's a f'n Porsche. A normal 964 has the same running gear as the Cup cars of the same generation, it just has more compliant suspension and a less reinforced unibody.
These guys act like you need a totally prepped, roll-caged, race car to go to the track. 911Jetta, you're proof that a mostly stock 964 is more than capable of track work.
I guarantee the 964 has more robust brakes than a BRZ/FRS. The 964 is dry sump. So on and so forth.
