Rear Center Light Substitution Panel
Does anyone out there pre-make these panels? At least the basic rectangle, not necessarily the finished product. I've only seen them on one or two 964s out there, but I personally think it's a pretty good solution. It not only rids you of dealing with an expensive part that will eventually degrade, but it saves weight. Of course it takes a little DIY engineering and a solution for the reverse lighting, but I like it.

I like the idea (R Gruppe theme). I'd want to make sure the area behind the mesh is really cleaned up.

Or a carbon panel?
Or body colored?

No, I believe that that is what we call 100 MPH tape - it looks like scotch tape, but in this case it could be referred to as race tape. WHAT EVER !!!!!
Interesting concepts - like the look - are all self made or is this on the market some place -
Anybody have inside pics of how they are mounted to the car ?

Wow, I actually posted a topic a few people are interested in!
I really like the RUF piece and was aware of it's existence, but I was trying to source just a blank, or basically a much more crude product like the one seen on some RWB cars. I obviously tried emailing their contact guy, but haven't heard back from him over the last few days. I could always make it myself too, but trying to keep my life as simple as possible. I realize it's not a completely flat rectangle.

I saw your comment in another thread, so I thought throwing a couple pictures in there would help...
I was thinking about building a mesh panel also, but I'm pretty happy with my smoke vinyl wrap. To take the theme one step further, I even PhotoChopped R lights on the car a while back... I don't think the R lights work with the fat bumper, at least definitely didn't in the test image.
That said, I wonder if changing the engine grill cover would look good on a 964? Fabricated from .063 thick 3003-H14 perforated aluminum sheet? I asked some friends to make a sample for a 964 a while back (hint, hint if you are reading...).

If anyone has a an old donor rear centre light they could donate I could look into the cost of getting a run of lightweight carbon ones made with and without the mesh cut out but no built in reverse light.
Obviously I would return the favour by exchanging it for heavily discounted shiny lightweight carbon panel.

I'll have a look in some japanese Porsche magazines later tonight, to see if I can track down the maker of that mesh piece.
But I did have a look at Yahoo Auctions Japan, and found a few interesting things:
"Ruf-esque" carbon cover for the centre light.

...aannnd a used Ruf centre light! The ad says it's silver, and is in good condition apart from a small crack on one of the mounting holes (which is pictured).
