As I see it there are 2 ways to do this. CNC or metal mesh with edge trim piece around. The below example uses the available mesh and you will notice that because of the curvature of the panel some cutouts aren't perfectly aligned. An edge trim piece would be necessary to cover these. Not a huge deal, but if you want to do it better you have to use a CNC machine. You could have a clean looking edge and the part would look very professional. I am still working on CNC version of the panel, will post soon.

Actual A1 file to print linked below. Print, cut and try it out on your car. Let me know what you think:

I can't remember that they were using on the edges to achieve that. It was discussed in the Pelican thread I post about earlier. It's just come rubber that fits over the edge. Like what they use on dog dishes and the like to keep it from slipping.

Guys this is really looking good! Great job Dobermandad for kicking this up a notch and the others for moving it along.

Just to clarify, we're talking about an actual replacement for the reflector assembly, and not simply a cover correct?

I had two extra rear reflectors in my garage that I was messing around with. Still have one extra, I believe. Is one needed?

Also, are the square reverse lights preferred vs. round? Kris (dobermandad), I recall us talking about possibly round reverse lights. Just a thought.

I'm in on whatever comes from this. Should start a kickstarter and get a couple 100 made.

Round is kind of cool too. I'd run square.

Round looks cool but Square is more fitting with the rest of the design.

Paper templates are just a part of the design and fitting process. Final piece would be made from aluminium and either included brackests or be fitted in place of the old reflector lens. Some ducting and extra fabrication would be necessary to make it functional.

If anyone has an extra broken or cracked centre reflector I could use one to finalize the model and send it off to CNC.

PM me please.

Thanks!

Prototype build! Man this goes project goes fast! I wish I did such a progress with the engine rebuild

I think the edge trim is necessary to hide the offset grid that is a result of the curved shape. A very kind member on the forum offered a donor centre panel and I am waiting for to arrive so I can swap the reflector lens with the mesh. In the meantime I will make up some brackets, paint the piece black and figure out how to do heat ducting.

Here is the prototype:

Thanks!
Andrew
