Best Bang for Buck Power Upgrade (<$1000)
I'm trying to put together a best bang for buck power upgrade shopping list. I'm just talking nearer-term / bolt-on / DIY stuff here, and trying to keep it under the $1000 mark.
I'm thinking it'll probably be something like a Steve Wong chip and combination of intake and exhaust pieces. I just don't know what specifically I need. I look forward to seeing your ideas.

I have had 2 performance chips and the stock chip on my car. The car had a Weltmeister chip in it when I purchased it. I switched to a Wong chip for driveability issues. No perceivable difference there. I then switched back to the stock chip. I noticed that the high end kick was reduced, but low end torque increased. In general, driveability was better. I run a primary bypass that sounds good. I switched out the cone filter for a stock filter to reduce intake noise. No noticeable hit in performance with the Wong chip.
The one mod I'd like to make is for a hot wire mass air flow sensor. More than $1000. You'll get more performance and better throttle response. Not sure if driveability would suffer (mod requires a rechip).
My 2 cents.

Most of the threads I start here don't seem to end very well.
I like that idea Frank.
