Found the leak and replaced the gasket with the updated version from Reinz

Cleaned up the housing

New green seal for the oil pressure unit

Bay was dirty so pressure washed every nook and cranny

Coming out better than I thought.

I have always wondered how polishing holds up on this type of metal.

Every throttle linkage was taken apart chemical washed and sandblasted.

Hopefully I'll have the 964 running this week

Wow, how did I miss your intro. last week?

Welcome and thanks for posting pictures of your progress. It's bringing back memories.
I had thought about polishing my intake also, but settled for a dark grey paint instead. Looks like a lot of work, but well worth it. Hat's off to you, I can't wait to see it installed. Very nice.

I liked what you said about growing up in the '90s and being a tech. on these cars. This is a very fun car to own if you have your skills! Unfortunately, you are right, HP does cost serious $$.

You've definitely had some amazing cars in the past, and you're doing great work on this one too.

Hi Jinos,

Welcome to the forum!

Looks like you know your stuff!!! Great job, I would love to tackle this one, just a bit unsure if I could get it all back together without having the obligatory hand full of screws and washers over at the end!

Did you get the throttle body plated?

I'm sure it will look superb when you get it back in, remember to post the pics

Jinos,

You are talking all this apart with the engine still in the car, correct?

Also, are you using anything (reference material) to help you understand how to take it apart?

I am detailing the *** end of my car at this point...it is getting somewhat boring and watching you attack the engine is tempting me to work on that next instead of finishing detailing the entire car. Plus I got some oil leaks that I would like to hunt down soon.

Thanks,
Steve

Many thanks! I guess it came out fine since I had no screws left. woohoo!
TB was not plated. All done by hand and elbow grease.

I'm sure it will look superb when you get it back in, remember to post the pics
Thank you!

Porsche is a totally different animal and IMO bmws are easier to work on but get more joy out of the air cooled.

Nice looking ride and welcome to the forums! I love how most 964 owners do a lot of the work themselves.

Thanks Jetta! Lets see how far I go with this 964. Really want to drop the motor and do some real work but no need for such a healthy motor.

Hey Jinos

Looking great!

Regarding that polishing....when you say elbow grease..how and what did you use to get that looking so darn good?

Did you use an abrasive wheel and a special polish?

My TB looks to be pretty rough/textured aluminium, did yours start off like that?

And, is this something that you think a novice could do? Or am I just opening up a whole world of hurt?
