Of importance for high mileage (as well as low mileage) 964's are:
1. Rubbers all around the car.
2. moving parts in suspension like: shocks, steering arms and *****, etc., etc.
3. Rust, rust, rust (if you don't see it, doesn't mean it is not there). If it is painted, what has been repainted, why has it been repainted, etc.

Other stuff seems to be taken care of. Enjoy the new ride and pave the ways for us regarding the mileage.

I fell in love with this car and watched the eBay sell. This would be my first porsche and I honestly did not know how the motors held up with that many miles. I have been free browsing the forums for some time and now looking for a nice 964 as a first of many. I was very tempted to buy the car as it was within budget but I live in Michigan so it would have sat all winter. I love the look/ setup of this car. And hopeful the new owner will keep up updated on its success.

ok so here's the scoop - I was very close to buying this car, but decided not to because it would not be the ideal weekend family car for us. I'm looking for a mostly stock 964 instead, with stock seats etc.

I did talk to the owner on the phone for a while - he seems to be a very nice guy, and seems to know the car pretty well (and 964s in general). The recent maintenance performed on the car addresses all of the known issues mechanically. The RUF/other mods are not cheap - there's a lot of money in this car just in parts upgrades.

H&R suspension ($1,200+)
RUF wheels ($2,000+)
FVD MAF/intake ($1,000+)
Speedster seats ($2,500+)
RUF gauges ($1,000)
RUF steering wheel ($1,400+)

The miles are high, but apparently the previous owner drove between San Fran and Lake Tahoe all the time, so mostly highway miles allegedly. The other issue is the paint, it was originally red but previous owner had it repainted polar silver. The seller sent me some higher resolution pictures, and the car looks beautiful. The paint job is very good, but you will still see red underneath in the engine bay and front trunk. Anyway, I thought I would pass along this info in case anyone else here is interested. If this car passes a PPI, it could be a good deal considering the money already put into it.
