One of my 964s has had persistent running problems and I need a shop in the SF Bay Area that has someone who will problem-solve systematically and has the right diagnostic tools rather than just shotgunning the problem with my checkbook. Several shops have tried to solve the problem (sometimes car runs fine, other times it just dies and won't restart for many minutes) and the problem remains.

Any recommendations for someone who is a true problem solver and is comfortable and capable with 964 electronics?

When I lived in SF, I used The Stable (Pine @ Franklin), an outstanding shop for air-cooled Porsches.
Reitmeir's Werkstatt, in Los Altos, is also very good.

I know a group of enthusiasts / mechanics / technicians who work with 964 owners to solve problems .
They don't even charge anything .
Its on the tip of my tongue , anybody know the name of that website ?

I've used Tom Amon for several years for other work but this problem stumped him. I don't think he has the correct diagnostic equipment for a 964.

What ever you do, stay away from that place ... personal experience aside, I don't know anyone that has a good thing to say about scargo
