Default Turbo Brake Disc - "Look" vs "Turbo"

I am looking to change over to the Turbo brake disc front and rear -
I noticed that there are 2 disc listed for the front .
Just what is the difference between "Look" and the actual "Turbo" disc
Does the look just bolt on while the Turbo requires caliper adjustment?
Does the rear just bolt on as a direct replacement?
Am running 993 calipers front and rear already - and want to go to the larger disc.
Front
965 351 043 - Look (L)
965 351 045 - Turbo (L)
965 351 044 - Look (R)
965 351 046 - Turbo (R)
Rear
965 352 041 - (L)
965 352 042 - (R)

To start which calipers are you using the stock 993 or the 993 turbo/C4S? The stock 993 calipers use a version of caliper originally used on the 928 S4/GT 304mm x 32 mm. Although this uses the same pad as the 964 3.3l turbo the turbo used a different caliper and a larger 322mm x 32mm rotor. The 964 turbo 3.6 used a larger pad and similar rotors but have more face area to accommodate the 58mm pad height vs the 48mm pad height of the 3.3T/993N/A pad. IIRC the 045 and 046 is the rotor used on the 3.6 T and the 043/044 is used on the 3.3l turbo in either case if you have the narrow body N/A 993 calipers up front neither of these will work for your application for the fronts.

As far as the rears you can't use the turbo rotors with the N/A 993 calipers and can't use the 964 or 993 turbo calipers without loosing your handbrake. So neither of these rotors will work. A stock 964 rear rotor will work or if you want cross drilled look IIRC the 944 turbo S/968 M030 rotor is your only option but I would see if Bill is around to answer your questions in greater detail.

The Turbo Look front rotors that you listed are actually also used on the '91-'92 Turbo. The others are only for '93-'94 Turbo 3.6. The 993 Turbo/C4s calipers are used on the '93-'94 Turbo 3.6, however the 3.6 uses a different steering knuckle than other 964s. I would think that you could put the '91-'92 Turbo/Turbo Look rotors on without any issues, but to do the Turbo 3.6 rotors, you may need the steering knuckles (or an adapter) to space the caliper out correctly.
I can't be much help with the rears, since I don't know how interchangeable Turbo rears are with a C2. They use different trailing arms, but that may just be for the wide-body stance.

The turbo 3.6 rotors fits in both versions: you could them use in a turbo 3.3/RS/turbo-look wich use the same caliper. And you could use them in the turbo 3.6, wich had a wider surface area on the brake disc (but the same diameter and offset).

The turbo 3.3 rotor fits only on turbo3.3/RS/turbo look models.

The 3.6 rotors are 700gramm heavier and, in germany, round about 90,-€ cheaper (per rotor) ... so i use them on my RS-Brake upgrade. The 3.6t rotors have the 045/046 order-number...

You only going to have an unused "ring" from round about 1centimeter width if you use the 3.6 rotors with the 3.3/RS/t-look caliper.. but thats only a cosmetic issue...

regards

Now you guys are confusing me.

The only difference in the 3.6T front suspension vs the 3.3T is the larger diameter mounting adjustment whole on the strut. The strut is similar to the one used on the 993TT. The 3.6T uses the brake caliper known as the big red also used on the 993TT but with a 5mm different offset than the 3.6T requiring a different two piece rotor. The 964 RS used the same front brakes as the 964 Turbo 3.3L AKA S4 caliper with the 322mm x 32mm rotor also used on the Turbo look cars or as stated the 043/044 rotor. All these calipers as used on 964's have the offset the offset only changes when you move to the 993TT.

The 3.6T rotor weighs only a few ounces more it is closer to 70 grams than it is 700 and this is because of the additional surface area needed to accommodate the additional 10mm of pad width. You can use a 3.6T rotor with a Turbo S4 caliper however you will have roughly 10mm not 1mm of surface area on the face of the rotors inside diameter that will not be used. If you use the 043/044 rotor with the 3.6T 045/046 rotor you will have roughly 10mm of pad that will not make contact with the rotor face.

The rears are as I had stated and will not work on the regular cars.

In either case using these rotors with 993 stock brakes is not going to work unless you make special brackets to accommodate them.

all the 964 fronts under discussion here are 1 piece perforated & vented 322x32 w/ the same 964 o/s

all the 3.3 and RS used the same caliper w/ a raised foot, the caliper was designed for 304mm rotors the foot spaced in outboard for use w/ the 322mm rotors

the 3.6t used the Big Red caliper which is deeper and closer to the axle center line, the 3.6 rotors have a little more clearance in that area You can use the 3.6t on the other cars but not vice versa

the 964t rear rotors have the same dimater as other 964 models , 299mm

but

964t rear rotors are wider 28mm vs 24mm on others and have a different o/s, they can not be used on normal or RS models

The RS used a 968 M030 rear rotor. These are the perforated and vented and the same size, 299x24, and o/s as the plain vented 964 rotor
