I completely disagree about these two comments...
I love both BMW's and Porsches. Like you say, they are different but still both brands will allways find places in my garage.
I also do 95% of the wrenching on my cars and can tell you that the BMW's are far more easier to work on than the 911s.

I have had two M3s (E36 and E46) and now have an M5 (E39). I also have a 964 Cup. I love all of them. To put it bluntly, the 850 is a powerful (but graceful) pig compared to the 964. The M5 is awesome, but at 4000 lbs, there is only so much you can do.

Anthony,
Sweet garage. And is that a lift I see recessed into the floor....Nice....

Yes it is a bend Pac SP-7X Dual piston scissor recessed into the floor. I can only lift the cars 50" off the floor but that is all I need. I am still in the process of completing the build. Tons more stuff to be added, The floor has radiant heat too.

I too had several BMW's and if it wasn't for a bad dealership experience I might still own one today.

Best luck with the search for a 964. These guys have a lot of info that will prove to be beneficial.

It's not that I don't like them They BMWs are great fun to drive, and I have a Porsche 964 and BMW Z3 in the garage. I find the Z3 aweful to work on though.
I mean who but BMW puts a 21mm suspension bolt where you cannot get anything but a shorty short open end wrench on it? Plus they put the engine in the wrong place!

For me a 911 is easy cheezy lemon squeezy to work on, make sense and for the most part servicing was well thought out. Nothing over done, over built, or engineered. Just what was needed nothing more nothing less. BMW has all kinds of covers and nonsense, you have to take have the motor apart to get to the CPS, which goes bad on a regular basis, and I never seen a Porsche stess crack a unibody.

I still, like I said, like to drive BMWs but they are night and day.

Well yeah. It would be stupid of me posting here and thinking you would say a bad word about the 911
Either way I know what I want. I just have to slowly get the money and find it now
I will be looking forfor '84-'89 Carrera 3.2 widebody.
Anyone own a car like that and can tell me about it?
Its going to be nice having the CSI for the long runs and the Carrera for the fun rides.

On this video you can see what I plan on doing to the Mini.

Before the 964 Cup, I had an 87 Carrera that I eventually turned into a race car. I would rather have a street 964 that a street Carrera - better engine, better AC, better suspension. But I don't want to start that fight here. There are threads ad nauseum comparing 964s and Carrearas. As for finding a wide body - good luck!

Is it that hard to find a wide body?
My friend who bought one and has also a e31 said he searched for 2 years for the light one.

oh absolutely wonderful to drive a CSI.

What do you want to know. That is what I was looking for when I got my 964. Big money and hard to find but that is the car to have in that vintage. All the turbo stuff without the headache of a turbo car. It was a high dollar option and there wasn't very many M491s.

I looked for about 1 and half years and found 1 with 200k for $22K. Found a lot of clones, but they are never the same often lacking all the turbo suspension and brakes.

Yeah. The CSI is a blast. It is no corner monster, but you can have fun in it. And you can get loads of power with it if you want. I have a friend with a supercharger and he is crushing some e60 m5.
The 911 must be a blast on the corners.
What I want is a black on Black/tan turbolook 964.

I would love to have a widebody 964 too, but they are even more rare than the 3.2 Carrera M491s.
