964 Conversion to 1969 911 Look
I know that Singer has done this and i think they look great. However I don't have that kind of money! I'd like to start with a fairly clean car and change the front and rear and possibly flares. I'm wondering if I should start with the 964 and change it cosmetically or start with an older 911T and try to change it mechanically. The first seems a bit easier to me. Any input would be appreciated!

I'm not sure how much research you've done into this, but I'd say that Singer does a trememdous amount of work to make a 964 look like a proper longhood.
For example, the 964 has those bulbous bumpers, because they're chock full of stuff So you'll find that longhood clothes don't really fit a 964 very well, not without some hefty reenginering to relocate things like oil coolers, air con and exhaust.
My take on it, is that if you can find a really nice and solid 80s impact bumper 911, like say a G50 Carrera 3.2 with great mechanicals, that would be a much easier base to start from.

He did my car. If you search me there is a thread on here somewhere with some pics. He's got two levels of conversion now - PS Autoart and RS Technik. The RS Technik version is the cheaper one and I think you can buy the parts from him and do the work yourself or at least in the US. The parts are designed for the 964 so the need to move stuff around is minimal (after removing impact bumpers).
Good luck!

Babalouie - I'm just starting to research this project. I don't even have a donor car yet. However, I have found a really clean 1969 911T with a duck tail ( I really like that look! ) and I was wondering which direction to go. Convert the cosmetics of a modern car or convert the mechanicals of an older one. Your suggestion is really interesting and I'll definitely look into it! Thanks!

If you've found a solid car, then do it right and get the older car. It's the look you want from the start. Plus it's the driving experience, and everything else that comes with owning a real longhood that makes it worth it. Sounds like you found a nice car.
Then next year buy a nice 964 as a daily driver!

I own a longhood car and a 964.
The best conversion if u are starting with a long hood car is to use the mechanicals from a Carrera 3.2 (engine, suspension, brakes etc), its a common upgrade and u will get loads of help over on Pelican with guys who have already done it.
So u will have the stock look of an early car but more useable, reliable and cheaper to maintain parts from a later car.
U will have a weight of about 1000kg with 230hp (given that a 2.7RS is 210hp) should be enough for such a light car.
A good example here

Dlum, that's ( or was) exactly my project !! 964 is the way to go, because you get tons of advanced tech at a similar or even cheaper price.
Re: PS, I e-mailed them 2 months ago, they wouldn't ship parts ..Maybe we can convince them to have a group buy if we put together 4-5 interested parties? It would be so much better if we can start with either a kit or a good "how to" guide, otherwise trial and error on bodywork can swallow big$$$$'s.
