Default Backdate 964 C2 Project

I just got this car from California as a new project. 1990 Carrera 2 with G50 and some backdates. The car was gone through for a Pre Purchase Inspection by John Chambers in Oceanside, CA and he documented that the car had suspension issues and #5 cylinder had 0 lbs pressure on the leak down test and seemed to have a exhaust valve sticking.

I bought it off the internet and had it shipped to Tallahassee for fit and finish issues at G. Davis Auto, a trusted Porsche Mechanic and my brother.

Default Things I Liked

The car was overall clean, had the rear seat delete, good base colors, clean car-fax, and upgraded suspension to Bilstein & H&R green springs.

Work had been done to make it a 73 RS clone and the front quarters had been extended, they had made it a long nose, R Gruppe light in the rear, RS door panels, they put the duck tail on and the Carrera logos.

I remember that car being offered for sale for quite some time. Looks like a good starting point hope you got it for the right price!

It'd be cool if the side valence could be backdated somehow, as was done on the rear and front. They're a bit 'thick' (to my eyes) seen on a longhood.
A good easel to do some work upon, regardless!

PS Auto Art has made a couple really nice Retro 964s. They have modified the sils and gotten rid for the shark fin, but I still wish it looked less bulky...maybe it needs a strip of chrome trim at the top to reduce the visual weight? Anyway, that's what's fun about a project like yours, playing with the little details.

Regardless, have fun with the car and keep us updated!
How is the dual exhaust routed?

Default Fit and Finish was an issue

We had John Chambers Motorsports of Oceanside CA do the Pre Purchase Inspection. He found the front suspension springs cut, #5 cylinder had no pressure, and some parts missing.

Default Breaking the car down

We got the car in the air and removed wheels for color change and decided to drop the motor out to rebuild the top end. When the springs came in we realized that the Bilsteins in the front had the top bolts sheared off and ordered them.

Default Maybe a Little Deeper

Once the heads were sent off to Anchor Atlantic for attention, the bottom end needed to be looked at. All parts were cleaned and left on a shelf while we waited on the heads.

Default Wheels Done - Tires Installed - Attention to Detail

The tires were stripped and prepped for paint, Geoff decided to send me to Ernie's Alloys to buy the center caps for the Cup 2 wheels. The wheels were painted black and the centers were white with black inlay. Looks fantastic.

Woo - the paint combo on those wheels looks nice.
Got any more pics of them ?

Have been wanting to get the road rash fixed on my set - and thinking of painting as well.
