Question Fabspeed Air Intake

Has anyone installed the Fabspeed performance air intake box on their 964? What were your results with improved performance and sound or did it make a difference?

I HAD the fabspeed airbox cover..never noticed any performance improvement, more intake sound for sure

I took it off because it never seemed like it was a secure seal to the factory air filter and was a bad fit to the K&N, I modified it to sit tighter but it was a PITA to deal with and it just was too thin/flexible to convince me that it was making a good seal

It is thin and while I am happy with my Fabspeed exhaust components I wish I had never tried the "Cup " air intake cover

Had one - gave it away as seemed cheap, flimsy and made no difference.

You can get the same sound by drilling a few holes on your stock box. Just tape the filter in place and go for a drive with the cover off to see if you like the sound.

+964 on the above.

Cheap, flimsy and not worth the effort. Drill holes in your stock box if you want the sound.

Un modified air box covers bring a premium and are getting harder to find so you may want to search for one that had already been cut or drilled

+1. I traded my drilled box for non-drilled original. The mod adds a few grams of extra weight, but I am sure I picked up one or two extra horsepower from breathing cooler/cleaner air.

Just bought a drilled air box off of Ebay for $30 to try it out. Sound at high RPMs is cool but a little much coupled with my primary bypass. I could have lived with the sound increase if I thought it gave some power boost but if anything my gut feel was that I lost some power esp at mid RPMs. So I put the stock box back on. I would guess the same result with a cup air box cover. Maybe I'll try it again when the temps cool down.

It's all about that glorious sound. If drilling or trading is all it takes to hear the roar, I would it every time.

4,000+ RPM or full throttle triggers such a wonderful roar. On the gas it's amazing loud (also have a cat. and primary bypass, and no engine sound pad), but I think it really adds to the experience in the cabin.

I don't notice an increase in noise at part throttle.

Agree completely.

I do not notice the Fabspeed box or the cut factory box when I used it unless I am at full throttle, and then it sounds wonderful. I run a cat bypass but still have both mufflers in place, although a G-Pipe may be in my future.

Putting that aside, I would love for a 964 to sound like a 993 w/Motorsound, but I believe that would require replacement of the entire exhaust starting with the headers, in addition to changes to the intake. Big $$$$, but they do sound spectacular.

Agree completely back at you.

Or a Fister Stage III set up!

That does look horrendous, Jason, but I can't say I see any issues with fitment when used with a K&N. The Fabspeed cover does feel very thin in construction, but it also feels very strong.

I have only had mine on since May, but when the AX season ends, a stock filter and unmolested airbox cover will go back on, so I do not anticipate using it with a stock air filter.

It might look like fine from the front BUT NOT at the back. The cover is too thin and lacks any ribs to help stiffen it. So the two clips on the back will cause the cover to deform (regardless of filter brand; OE, OEM, K&N, etc.) which you won't notice unless you pull the motor.

Well, in that case, I will probably remain ignorant, or I guess I could subject the airbox to the 'ole "reach around". :-)

I was wondering how you got that photo.

Actually it is worse when used with K&N!
