I dont know about the factory plastic ones but the carbon are an absolute pig to try and get them to fit both ends, ane if your rubber shroud on top of the fan is at all perished it will tear it apart with the stress
I thought mine came out defective and I was the only one with that problem. Ended out using the original rubber short hose to fit the lower end.

+1 on the rubber-shroud issue at first attempt to fit the bypass.

Read on another forum that i need to pull the 30amp fuse and the black 2nd relay out from inside the black box in the engine bay?
Does it need the relay and fuse?

Ive read summore and i dont need the fuse and relay but will have to do sum dodgy electrics!
I like the 1 wire idea, simple, ive read of it not working on sum year cars, will it work on my 1990?

I got a factory one and it fits a lot better than the carbon fibre one I first bought and since returned.

964russ,

I believe it will work on a '90 car... From my understandings (reading electric diagrams) there shoudn't be any relevant differences between the early cars and latter ones.

U'd better remove the fuse to interrupt any current flowing through the unused wireness

"Kos" i got mine from design911 £140 delivered (there in a sale -£50!), it is mega light and looks v good, and it seams to fit perfectly, but i havent got it into the rubber bit properly due to the tear.
Ill make up the little wire thingy later.

Ordered the air duct from the stealers £32 delivered on friday to my works.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Can anyone post a picture of how the wire is connected to the coil?

For the one wire solution; here's the relay end (thanks anto1150) the red wire with an inline fuse that then disappears into the coil cover.

And I think the coil end (thanks Babalouie) would be like this the green wire mounted to the left terminal on the coil.

I don't know why the bypass mod is so popular. It doesn't save a lot of weight (it wasn't done on the RS, only on the cup). I can see the appeal in a stripped back to the bones race car where weight is everything but for a 964 used on the road aswell as track, I'm glad to have the functionality of the blower. Especially in a cooler climate.

Even on a '90, there is no need for a relay, I tried it.
As long as the original wires feeding the rear blower are disconnected (and NOT connected to a resistor) and that the relay is removed and that pins 3 and 5 of the relay base are connected, everything works and there is no drain.

You still get heat, just less. 5kg here, plus a plastic rear screen and carbon deck save some valuable kilos back there! Enough to justify a lightweight battery in the front...!

It is also a good/cheap mod to do, when your heater blower has died
