I hope to drop my 90 C4 engine soon as its in dire need of a reseal. Your post gives me hope I can pull it off.

Lastly, what make of lift is that??

Good luck,

Dan
Exactly as you say, it was cooking the rear tyre, luckily I smelt it straight away when I fitted the 17 wheels. There is meant to be a factory heat shield there but mine lost at some point in its history. My home made one is ugly but works, you can put your hand flat on it with the car running and its cooler than the tyre!

The lift is a cheapy one from ebay http://garageequipmentgroup.co.uk/item&name=MRS3 - its got a bit more expensive in the last couple of years since I bought mine. It's handy for the C4 as you can access the whole length of underside.

Scored flywheel, probably just skim-able but I had trouble finding someone local that would do it, and porsche say they can't be skimmed.

Coverplate is worse than the flywheel

Supras are awesome, bomb proof and huge power, just a bit bulky for me. Not un-common for people to put Supra engines in Skylines when the RB26DETT blows up (usually due to oil starvation via one of three or four failure modes).

Needle bearings on the fork shaft, carefully cleaned and repacked with grease, before I realized two seals were missing.

Re; that engine tin.....I think even more of mine was missing! And as you know the new piece is north of 200 quid!

Re; the exhaust flange....I also have the T-shirt....Unit 11 made up a new flange and welded it on. Far cheaper that the £2,000+ that Porsche wanted for one heat exchanger!

I believe they had to use a slightly thicker flange to make up the extra gap that is created when cutting off the old one because there's not much give in the rest of the exhaust system, when bolting the cat to the heat exchanger. Here's a pic for your interest (btw it's only tacked on the outside - the main welding is on the inside to ensure it is gas tight):

Thanks boxsey that's a useful pic. Do you know if they dropped the heat exchangers to do that or did they do it on the car?

There are a few people I've found on-line that will laser cut exhaust flanges to spec and I'd just about back myself to be able to turn the power up on the MIG and weld that.

It was done on the car (that flange went before I had the rebuild done).

My engine carrier was like that on the ends. Had them cut off and welded back on straight with some reinforcement.

Default Home lift

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me what brand of lift you used for your car in your garage? I live in Los Angeles. Thanks
David

Hi David, there's a link the the lift in the post at the top of this page. However I bought it in the uk and it weighs 750kg so shipping to LA isnt going to work unless you work for a freight forwarder.
