Default Restoring Fan & Housing question... use what type media for blasting?

Going to restore the fan and housing by having them blasted and then Gibbs treatment.

What media is safe to be used? I've heard soda, anything else?
How about pressure, low?

Will post pics when done.

I blasted mine with aluminum oxide at 65-75psi and it worked fine.

Walnut shells work great, especially if you decide to also blast the valve covers (inside and outside).

I had my fan and housing powder coated and I know they blasted it prior to coating but I have no idea how or with what.

Anyway, the coating on both parts went on rather thick and now I get some marking of the fan (yellow) on the housing (silver). It's only a couple of blades and it is very light. Actually, when spun by hand there is no contact, but when spun up to high revs, it somehow rubs lightly but enough to mark. It was a fan I sourced 2nd hand so it's not perfect. I'm just gonna roll w/ it and keep an eye on it.

After seeing a number of vintage 911's recenting and talking to the owners, no paint or powder coating for me. Just naked and treated with Gibbs.

Mine got powder coated by a horrible powder coater. I have regretted it since. And is now all cracked from heat and the powder coat looks horrible...so be careful who you choose.

Next round is bead blast mine and do the same, leave naked...

I'd still like to see pics of fans and housing...love this stuff...

Not related to powder coating, but replaced the fan housing recently. Just for information, the 993 part is cheaper than 964 one. But need little cutting modification.

The OEM finish is the same as the valve covers, goldish silver.

I used a scotchbrite pad to roughen the surface, then sprayed mine with Hammerite Bright Yellow (Smoothrite actually).

Its been as gold as gold for a numer of years now.
