Warning - 3.6 Turbo with shady past. Background by Vin number.
Hi Gents,
I'd like to do a background check on a 964 based on it's Vin number - where can I find out this information?
Also where do I find the engine number?
VIN: WP0ZZZ96ZPS470581
Cheers,
EDIT:
Just found this link but the VIN isn't coming up when I hit search... guess it's only for option codes http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options/options.asp
Here's another link http://www.autoatlanta.com/life/vin/...A82962ps420278 have to be a registered customer...

The engine number is to the right side of the fan at about 5 O'clock. You can just see mine in the pic below (just up and to the right of that large stud). It's very difficult to see it if you have the air con compressor in the way.

Frank, I'm not sure what you want to confirm from the VIN but according to my buyers guide (Peter Morgan) that VIN is for a ROW 1993 model year 964 turbo and therefore the engine number should be in the range 61P00001 to 61P01614.

Hi Gents,
Just to let you know this RHD 3.6 Turbo was involved in a non recorded accident - the rear left wing/ near side is filled with filler as are all the panels bar one. The chassis does not line up straight with the side sills...
The owner claims to have not been aware of the damage and yet in his ownership it was resprayed...
Other than that there is incomplete service history/ paper work, and a host of other little problems.
I have a full PPI by GTOne for anyone who is a potential buyer.
Just thought I would flag it - since it would be dishonest if the car was sold without disclosing this information.
Number plate is L7GGS. Currently on private plate JAZ 4911

Frank,
What colour and where did you see it? The 3.6 market/knowledge is quite keen, the dogs get outed quite quickly!
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the amazon green one in the NW

Blimey someone's dodged a bullet there!
Definitely the community minded thing to do to share that info Frank. Hopefully that will help the next person out.
I take it that it wasn't being PPI for you though? Unless you decided that C4 ownership simply wasn't financially challenging enough and wanted to set the bar a bit higher with the addition of a crashed 3.6 Turbo!

I've seen that one discussed on Pistonheads before but not been able to find the thread(s) yet. As Steve said the 964T3.6 is a small and knowledgeable community...most cars are known to them!
p.s. Good to see that my Peter Morgan book got it right when it identified the VIN as a 3.6T.
