It's a risk but...
I've been in and out of the Porsche world for the last 25 years and been lucky enought to own some beautiful low mileage air cooled examples but never a 964.
Looked at a number but for one reason or another they haven't come up to scratch so I'm looking at a project car today, high miles, solid car, top end rebuild 20k miles ago ( I know who did it) but serviced out of the specialist world for a number of years. I'll take a punt if the price is right and start to put it in the condition I want from there..
It's a C4, GP white, 1990, with 17" cup 2's which I will change, with 4 previous owners. I know, I must be mad and may end up costing a shed load

Everyone needs to do a project car once in their lives! If it's a 964, you are starting with an amazing platform.
Yes it will cost a shed, but no you are not mad... these cars are so much fun to drive. I like the fact that you've owned other air cooled cars, it will be nice to hear what you think? Have you even driven a 964 yet?
Do you plan to drive it a while first, then start the project? Drive it for a couple months while you get parts and line everything up for the build. You'll better understand what the car needs and which direction you want to take with the car.
Then you'll really know it will cost a shed, but you're not mad!
Welcome to the 964 forum!

Well I've been to see and drive the car in question. The owner turned out to be a really good guy who has owned the car for the last ten years. It took some time but I've struck a deal and pick her up next weekend
Looks like I'm on the slippery slope as I have a list as long as my arm already... Will post some pics when I get her home.

Wow project car?
Looks mint and had an engine rebuild too. It hasn't even got pink rear lights!
not much of a project left wheels, mirrors, suspension maybe
Recommend getting the geo done transformed my C4

Yes she does look fine and happy to say the wait and long time search was worth it. The guy I bought it from was an old style engineer who kept every recipt but looked after the car himself so apart from the lack of stamps in the book, a few minor rust issues it's in good nick for 138k miles. Hopefully I'll enjoy putting many more on over time.
There are a few electrical issues to sort, I'll do a full service, suspension refresh, geo, wheels, replace the spoiler inner plastic trim, speaker grills and a number of other items over time. But in the main it's 95 percent original and original stickers are in place so I'm Happy with my find
Anyone run cup 2 17's on their 964? Oh and she came with 4x new conti tyres which was bonus!

Nice looking car that. 964's are one of the few cars that I like in white and it is very much the colour of the moment.
I run 17'' Cup two's and I'm happy with them, also running Conti's.
Maybe we'll see you on the roads at some point.
I'll be down at Leeds on Friday getting mine serviced.

Thanks Thomas, I actually don't mind the cup 2's, they need a refurb which is not a problem and original cup 1's are rare as he's teeth plus expensive, anyway early cash is better spent on something more important at this stage.
Look forward to meeting you and others possibly at one of the numerous events if we ever get a summer in the uk

Nice one digger looks good couldnt find a white one when I was looking ,you can have any combination of stripes/ wheel colour with white which appeals to me if you dont like one you can just change it (I assume same digger from IB.com?)

Hi Gaz, yep same digger. White was in the top three but they don't come up often, on the ramp following pick up so I will know more about the real condition them. I expect a list of items but with the build done I cant complain and that's why I bought it, enjoy it first the bring up to a decent level as I go.

Good luck with the new car as an all rounder the 964 is hard to beat I picked up my C2 knowing it had a few rusty bits ,both sides of the windscreen (I will try not to break it this time unlike the targa) and offside rear quarter which is quite common so that`s the project for this winter already changed the suspension, bushes etc huge improvement. away down to my mates this afternoon to have a look at his 964 cup car
