Looks like I should be replacing the two clamped-on hoses at the bottom of the tank to the thermostat. Can these lines be removed w/o (a) disturbing the tank, or (b) disturbing the thermostat? I'm afraid of creating new leaks in the side hoses when I move stuff around to replace the bottom hoses. Maybe I should just replace all 4 of those short rubber hoses. Your thoughts?

yes you can do the bottom hoses, the new ones are flexible and can be fitted without disturbing anything else...use the good clamps..

What's a good source for these "good" zebra clamps? PP wants $5.50/clamp for the OEM stuff.

Beware of the Zebra Clampos..some are made in China...I bought my OEM BMW clamps at the BMW dealer, 97 cents each...yes its heresy to have the roundel on the PCar but they are damn good clamps

BMW part number 07 12 9 952 113 for the thermostat to tank hose

Alternate source: McMaster-Carr. Search on 'Stainless Steel Smooth-Band Worm-Drive Hose and Tube Clamps.'

"Clamps are reusable and have a smooth band with rolled edges to prevent them from cutting into hoses and tubes. They’re ideal for use with silicone hoses and tubes."

I removed the shark fin today and it was kinda greasy in there. I decreased the area and ran up to the P dealer to get drain plug washers (the cashier with big **** and cleavage made it worth the trip).

It seems that the oil was coming from the oil plug in the t-stat. All of the hose clamps were tight and there was no oil above the t-stat.

I performed my first oil change and thought I was going to have to get my damn impact gun out to get the plugs loose. I was able to do the oil change without making a mess .... Until I kicked the oil pan.

Car is running great and no oil leaks!
