Default do a little happy dance?

Well, hopefully I can close this chapter of the car's history without going into a huge expense. I got the car back Saturday. The motor sounds just like I remember it from last year when it was running. I thought maybe I heard some noise in the timing chain area, but Ben and I have listened to it together and feel it's not timing chain. the noise is coming from around the alternator area, somewhat on the left side being more predominant. I also have to look into my power steering, as it felt like driving in sludge when I took it for a short ride Saturday.

The DME has to be reset, and run thru the reset paces to get my idle back. Idles a few hundred rmp low now, and wants to die if you come off throttle too quickly.

BUT--- the important thing is this doesn't seem to be a rebuild at this time. I'd like to get some seat time and repeat the leakdown test and see what happens.

I'd like to give a huge shout out to the forum for helping me stay calmer during this. I'd have still done a second opinion for that kind of money, but I think for now I'm ok. that's me knocking on wood so I don't jinx it. Also a huge shout out to Ben for giving me his thoughts and his ears to listen to the motor and give an opinion.

I'm not saying the shop that had it was all whacked up. I'm just saying I'm not sure they steered me in the right direction.

so... how did your weekend go?

Hawk - Truly happy your car is back and running without spending $7K. And yes, I agree the Rennlist community is a great group of people. Very helpful and giving.

My weekend was very productive. Saturday, I got my dashboard knee guard reinstalled. I had removed it two years ago trying to isolate a problem with the cabrio roof. I needed to reach a relay/control box under the dashboard and removed the knee guard to reach it. I've been driving it with it removed. Its been fine but looks tacky. It felt good to have it reinstalled and looking normal again. I also resolved why my horn wasn't working. The fuse was ok and we could hear the relay click. We removed the right front tire and fender liner and checked the voltage at the horns themselves. They had power. I then tried another set of horns and they worked. The "spare" horns were off my coupe which were removed while I'm replacing the oil lines and cooler. I will order a set of replacements.

Sunday, went to the gym and spent the afternoon doing errands.

This coming week, I need to take my engine tins and engine carrier to the powder coat shop.

I'm glad to hear the fear mongering didn't get to you and that the cooler heads prevailed .

That's the part that really gets me... make me think if I drive it 5 feet it will blow up, when that just doesn't seem to be the case.

Default Whewww!

A little like dodging a matrix bullet... it really wasn't real.. but they would have killed you anyway..

I am happy for you. I hope you get a lot of smiles and miles out of your car for no costs other than routine maintenance.

That is good to hear.

Be intersting to see what the compression and leakdown results are after running it again.

so... if I replace the timing chain tensioners, it looks like they are still $225 a side. Is that right? and then the rails are $50 or so a side? Am I looking at the right parts?

Right:

and what about this part?

all prices from Pelican, page 1 or 2 from the engine section: Pelican engine parts section

964-105-043-02 is the ramp that applies tension. PET says that you need quantity 1.

It does actually shows 2. You just have to look in both the left hand and right hand section, and it is quantity 1; however that is per side.

So you do need two 964-105-043-02-M260
