noisy spoiler fix

Hi everyone,
My rear spoiler is making a horrible grinding noise when deployed. It makes me wince every time I hear it and I am worried that it is going to eventually pack up altogether![crying](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigcry.gif)
I am going to attempt to fix this myself and have bought the replacement bearing which I am expecting to arrive in the post shortly.
I have found the following guide, my concern is that I have the DIY skills of a 5 year old and this looks pretty involved (well for me anyway!)
http://p-car.com/diy/spoilerdrive/
For those that have completed this fix…I would be really grateful for any hints/tips to guide me along and more importantly to help ensure that I do not cause further and more expensive damage with my limited fix-it ability!
Cheers.

When I did this on my old 993, I found this bit the trickiest...
"Carefully cut all around the periphery of the joint with a sharp knife to about 2mm deep. Take care not to go too far into the ridge of the joint"
It's very easy to damage the joint by going in too far.

Agreed, other than bit that it is quite easy. Though I'm guessing you'd be able to glue it all back together even if you dinged the case up a bit - spot of Araldite, bosh.

I found that the superglue that has to be sprayed with a special aerosol to make it set worked really well for me. It allowed me to get the casing in exactly the right place before I sprayed it and made it set. Sorry not sure what that type of superglue is called, I think it's a professional product rather then DIY though my mate who works in a garage gave it to me.

I tried professional super glue and it did not stand up to the forces in the worm drive. Araldite did the trick.

Unplug the motor before the bearing burns it out, Mine got seized (and fuse did not blow)
I used Scotch /3M super weatherstrip adhesive to glue the case together and it worked like a charm
Hardest part for me was getting the metal tip off of the cable as my bearing was so far gone I could not use it as a support whilst hammering out the end

thanks for all of the advice guys, I don't have a clamp or a punch and so better get these bought as this seems to a requirement for the fix. What grease is best to use?

You don't need a clamp, and a screwdriver will do the trick. Normal grease is fine.

I used a sealed bearing so didn't need any grease, also super glue didn't last very long for me either so I went round the joint with a soldering iron, that was 3 years ago and it's still perfect

I was so inspired by this post, I dug out a spare bearing and am now just waiting for the glue to set...
Tim I have clamps if you'd like to borrow them.
Cheers

clean everything thoroughly, use powdered graphite (old fashioned speedometer cable lube) on the cable and I used Wurth lube, it sprays on and is sticky, since its always warm back there a thick grease will work well
