Default Cold Start problems

G'day,

1st time Porsche owner.
'92 964 C2 manual purchased a few months ago and loving it!

I'm having issues with cold (for Adelaide!) mornings (4-6 deg celsius).

My car has been fitted with a lightweight fly wheel and aftermarket chip by a previous owner.

I have looked the past posts of this and sorry if if this repeated, but I would value any advice..

The car simply doesn't maintain idle (starts, then drops revs rapidly and dies). Unless some revs (say 1200-1400 rpm) are held for a few minutes until the temperature rises, then the throttle is released and car settles to ~900 rpm and then all is well. Starts 1st time when warm. Doesn't stall at lights once warm.

I've cleaned the ISV, air intake. replaced DME. The Porsche specialist ran the diagnostic unit and he mentioned that Cylinder temperature sensor in particular was functioning normally and no other faults identified.

I suspect that the LWF and chip hasn't helped.
Next thought was to do the adaptation procedure that Adrian Streather has discussed previously.

Otherwise, I suspect that the LWF and chip hasn't helped and the car is just not able to 'pick up revs' when cold and just have to live with it.

Curious though and would value any advice!

Probably the first of many questions, the Rennlist has been of great help so far. Hope I can contribute in the future!

Many thanks!!

start with the easy stuff first.

try the adaptation first ... use the bosch hammer ... you're only option in adelaide is buik motorworks .. poole does not have one ... dealer does not have one and i dont think enzo's has one either ... hence only option is buik ... if you read about adaptation with a 'battery disconnect and spirited drive' it is a waste of time for about 80% of owners.

what brand of chip? open up the DME and take a look if not sure.

you replaced the DME relay btw ... obviously different to the DME.

stupid question .. but why would you 'run the diagnostic' and then not try the adaptation at the same time .. it only takes 5 mins with a hot engine.

Thanks for that information regarding the availability of the Bosch Hammer in Adelaide.

When I get a chance to go to Buik, I will ask about the use of the diagnostic and adaptation at the same time. Thanks for the suggestion.

I meant to say DME relay was replaced.. Oops. Please excuse a green newbie!
