Drilling my airbox

I honestly think the cone filter is not as loud,. I noticed more of that 4k rpm roar when I had the CUP cover with the K&N..went with the cone as I did not trust the cup cover to seal properly on the box (it really is crap!)

Porsche haz VTEC??
I love the throaty sound of a flat 6 at WOT, but I still enjoy mine in stock form. Didn't the 993 guys pay for this option when getting the "sound package"?

Q. How much is a stock cover worth and how much is a drilled cover worth?

Hard question to answer. If you are going for the original look the stock box is worth more than the drilled, which would be nothing because you don't want it. If you are going for sound and performance the drilled would worth more and the stock box zero as you have one.
Based on what you want / need and what you are willing to pay

There is an old debate best left quiet (pun intended), about the power benefits. Do a search.

C didy -
Look at my avatar - I have modified the intake significantly and now have a 3 1/2 inch intake - The old intake system just won't work any more based on the Varioram mod and I had to add a 3 1/2 inch 90 elbow and fit a cone filter on that. Other than that, I preferred the cone which I had switched to earlier because I could get it closer to the cold air and shield it from the engine hotter temps. Whether or not this was worth any extra HP I have no idea - however I did notice a drop in intake air temp which is what my goal was.

Nothing wrong with colder intake temps. I bet most drilled airboxes actually see slightly increased temps but I could be wrong. Do you have other photos of how you mounted the cone?

I have a K&N cone on mine which was added by the PO.
Without any point of reference other than the fella's I regularly run out with I can say the cone seems to give a fair bit of roar in the upper levels of the rev range. It also seems to have a fair bit more bass to the engine tone but it's hard to tell whether that is down to the cat bypass or cup pipe.
All in, when you stamp on the loud peddle it gets you noticed

What, some don't like the noise? =;>
It's pretty subtle until 4,000 RPM, then it just roars! The noise level really jumps also at any point that you give it full throttle. Very fun.
Plus, Steve Weiner says it's worth 2-3HP. (but that's not the real reason to do it)
I cut a bunch of large holes in mine, but if I were to do it again I'd do it like Bababouie did: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=19642
It keeps the intake elbow piece in place (direct funnel to cool outside air) and should give greater rigidity to what's remaining of the airbox.
Babalouie's handy work:
Great mod!

what I can't work out is why the snorkel (open part of the intake ie the funnel) is pointed towards the metal manifold ...
rather than upward towards the underside of the decklid louvres? any views?
