Default Buying new Clutch, Flywheel??

The clutch of my 964 at 104500 miles is showing signs of needing a new one (I have no previous history of a new one installed from PO)

I am sure my car has the LUK Flywheel (Built date 02/93) but I am wondering if it is needed to change the flywheel too.

You Won't know until you are in there, and confirm the wear is not below spec. If you aren't getting any tell tale signs (clunking, vibrations, rattle at shut-off) hopefully replacement not needed. *fingers crossed*

Thanks Laker!!! my main worry is that if the flywheel needs to be changed and I haven´t bought it, the car will seat in the shop for a couple more weeks waiting till I get the part to Buenos Aires.

We have here specialized shops that rebuild Flywheels, do you think rebuilding could be a reasonable solution in case it is damaged?

I can't answer that Henry, perhaps someone else can chime in, but I do realize that your import duties on a new Luk, may make that a viable option. Could you not purchase a new Luk, and then re-sell locally if it is in fact not needed? Then again, I understand you have a very small 964 market in Argentina.

Henry,

One cannot "rebuild" the dual-mass flywheel. The main issue is deterioration of the rubber that bonds both sides of the unit together that fails from heat.

When they are either worn to spec or very old (beyond 100K), they are replaced with a new one. IMHO, these should never be turned as that simply shortens the effective life of the clutch disc.

Hope this helps,
