Default OBD2 converter cable

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/320757812557?...84.m1423.l2649

Will it work with our cars - looks like it should fit.

this looks to convert the cable connection ,not the technology difference between ODB to ODB 2.
the Diagnostic Tool would still have to be using ODB .

True the 19 Pin OBD1 will plug into the car and the OBDII will plug into a reader.

However, you will need a scanning software that will actually read the codes. Chances are you will get basic codes, perhaps but any of the other moduals you probably wont have access to: like Airbag, ABS, C4 beeler opperation, Alarm, and HVAC systems.

I haven't actually tried it so I don't know.

I do have a Durmetric and the only thing it doesn't do that the Bosch hammer will is the Adaptation.

Based on my limited research you would be better off buying this one for $10 more and get an interface that works:

Thanks carlskisWP. My 19-pin adapter cable is tested throroughly.
Beware, most of the ebay items have wrong pin connections and won't work in a 964. I have not seen them working in any Porsche cars actually.
I have tried to dig deep into pin connections with a lot of Chinese eBay sellers, most of them don't understand my questions on these details. I can't understand how they can keep up the business around these when they are not connected correctly.

Cheers,
Tore

I do have a USB OBD2 cable so i was hoping this would connect via the usb port then use the scantool software via the two cables - the 19 pin OBD"1" adapter to obd2 connector to USB.

That cable is not good unless your have a durametric? scanner.
IMO don't waste your money on that one..
Search for the threads about the scanner many of us have bought and works perfectly fine!

Good luck!

i have scantool installed with a homebuilt interface that works fine as well. The only thing i don't have is a proper plug to connect with - i use four pins and plug them individually into the car. If the cable doesn't communicate i might just chop it off and use the plug so that i don't hve to fiddle with the pins.
