Default Fuel shutoff valve

Hi,

What is the purpose of the shutoff valve that sits on top of the fuel system expansion tank? I've read that it works based on gravity so it's always open to let vapors out or air in unless your car rolls over.

This is a picture from another post:

How could you test that the valve is working?

Is it connected to the charcoal canister? How is it routed?

Thanks a lot,

so when you flip upside down all the fuel doesn't pour out. There is just a ball (check) inside that is open when you are right side up and closed when upside down.

Take it off and if it rattles it's good.

Yes it's connected to the charcoal canister. routed down by the pump through the center tunnel up into the engine bay out to the left side fender well where the canister lives.
