Transmission Enigma
I have very similar symptoms though don't always come out easily once reaching a full stop either. Mostly just 1st gear and it is most pronounced the higher the RPM when I get off the gas. That is, if the engine is trying to slow the car down (engine braking) then it is harder to get out of 1st. If I gradually slow down or when starting up when cold and get get up to high RPM, it comes out easier. Also, mine is intermittent - sometimes extremely smooth, other noticeably harder with resulting "pop" and seems to be somewhat temperature (outside and engine) dependent - more pronounced when cold out and/or car is not warmer up. I replaced engine mounts 1-2k mi ago w/993 OEM so I don't expect that though I will check engine carrier again.
Thanks all for the diagnostic input here - I need to get started on it.

That's not what I was saying / asking . Just a few pumps of the clutch pedal with out doing anything to the gas .
I've had same symptoms as Babalouie and others for the eight years I've owned the car. Clutch was fresh when I bought it. Things I've done: had the mechanic check the roll pin (twice), bled slave cylinder, replaced engine mounts with RS mounts, and replaced clutch slave cylinder and hose. Each "repair" helped the situation. Most recently, another Porsche specialist said he thinks it's the input shaft not being properly lubricated when the clutch was changed. He suggested working the clutch pedal a lot (as long as your leg can stand it, he said) when the car was at rest, to help scrub rust off the input shaft. Although it's difficult to judge the absolute effectiveness of this, so far the situation does seem slightly improved.
Babalouie: Tried your trick. Left car parked in 1st last nite, started this A.M. with clutch pedal down of course, pulled back on shifter and it was "stuck", so gave it several quickie 3600+ revs, but still not enough rotational speed and force to overcome the inertia to free up the disc. Thanx for the tip though. Cheers.
