Am I being unreasonable???
Last weekend I ordered a Zeitronix ZT-2 and Dashdaq.
It arrived today, packed well (kudos to them), but that's where the happiness ends.
The Zeitronix box was opened (seal was broken), one small piece was missing.
The Dashdaq box was not only opened, but the entire top of the box was missing.
All the pieces that should be included with the Dashdaq are all there, but it appears to be a display model (open box special). The Dashdaq itself has a few very, very small scratches around the perimeter of the case from handling and the plastic bags that a few of the items were in, were cut unevenly and re-taped.
Some people would say, if it works then what's the problem?
When I buy a new item, I expect it to be exactly that, BRAND NEW.
Not an open box or display model. If it is, then fully disclose that fact.
It was priced around 85 dollars less than everywhere else, but nowhere was it mentioned that it was an open box special and no, they did not call saying "by the way, the display model is the only one we have left". Yes, they do have my phone #.
I'll be calling them in the morning !!!
Any thoughts ?

The first thing I'd do is give them a chance to make it right (as in, cover return shipping plus a possible refund of original shipping and send you a new one) - I understand being torqued, but everybody screws up sometimes.

I know every company screws up from time to time... I certainly did when I ran an online store and when I did screw up, I let the customer decide what I needed to do to make it right. Full refund or exchange and I paid any associated shipping costs...
Also... I turned it on and looked at the configuration info and had a build date of Sept 2009. At least that's what shows up on the screen.
Here is a pic of the two boxes as I received them...
I'll let you know what happens.
At least I paid with a credit card.

not unreasonable, but if it all works fine, is it worth the stress & time?
personally i'd write a 5 min email and try to get back a few bucks and move on .. and probably not buy from them again.

I agree - new should be new.
OTOH, I can't speak for Kamispeed (never heard of them before) but Zeitronix software drivers have to be installed on the DashDaq before being sold so that may explain why some of it was opened and handled.
Regardless, I'd be making a 'phone call too and give them a chance to make it right.

While I agree that you apparently did not receive what you ordered, I find it somewhat disturbing how the norm has become - post negative findings & incriminating pictures on forum, and THEN place a call to the offending seller.
What happened to simply contacting the seller for a resolution first? I'm not defending Kamispeed (never heard of them before), nor am I condoning the misrepresentation of a product, but don't you think you jumped the gun a bit here?
If I were in your shoes, I'd be ticked as well. But I think I'd contact the seller before flaming them on a forum.

Certainly not unreasonable.
This is the chance we all take when buying online or over the phone unfortunately. There are a few companies that try it on with their customers as some recipients are not bothered one way or the other. Then on that one occasion, sods law, those previously handled goods or not as described item ends up at your door. Its happened to me (as with others) from reputable companies too.
As already stated. I would give the company the chance to put things right, if not, then don't give them any future business.
I made a purchase overseas with a supposed reputable company who wouldn't accept my credit card and requested a wire transaction. They were a Porsche parts supplier!!, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and transferred funds, needless to say the goods arrived not as expected. They declined to accept responsibility. Shame as they have lost my future business.
A lesson learnt on my part though, always pay with credit card!!

Problem resolved...
Apparently, the box does have to be opened to configure the Dashdaq for the zeitronix, but does not explain why the top of the box was missing.
The screen has no dead pixels, so I'll keep this one. No sense getting another one since everything seems to be working properly.
Perhaps an overreaction on my part, perhaps not.
Anyway...case closed.
