Default VERDICT: fix broken clutch fork mounting boss

I was just putting the engine back together and back into the car, when I finnally restarted the car and all went great. I went for a quick ride to see how my new RS clutch performed. After awhile I heard a loud pop and the clutch pedal went to the floor. At first I though, and was hoping for the roll pin in the pedal assy, but it was altogether different. I lifted the rear left side of the car and saw this through the clutch hole. It looks like the clutch fork and shaft broke off a piece of the transmission cassing,... what the heck???

Anyone has an idea of what hapen and how should I go about fixing this?

Sorry to see this, my sympathies!

Do you have a parts list of what you swapped over when you did the RS change? Just want to see if anything pops out that's missing. Here's the list I had for my 1991 C2 - I think I remember from the install that I needed different pressure plate bolts too but that's from memory...

Quantity P/N Description
1 964-116-028-90 Pressure Plate
1 964-102-239-31 RS Flywheel
1 996-116-015-32 RS Clutch Disc
1 964-114-143-31 RS Ring Gear
1 944-116-080-01 Release Bearing
1 950-116-813-30 RS Clutch Guide Tube
1 931-102-111-00 RS Flywheel Pilot Bearing
9 928-102-151-01 Flywheel bolts
1 950-116-086-06 Improved Clutch Release Fork
1 950-116-237-12 Clutch Slave Cylinder
1 999-113-426-41 Flywheel Seal

I bought the entire kit sold by Pelican Parts, which comes with everything you listed, aside from the flywheel seal, clutch slave and the improve fork.

BTW what is the improve fork, I reused the old one. What is the difference?

Well it's obvious it broke.

IIRC it's reinforced.

Makmov, the fork is still intact,... its the clutch fork boss into the transmission bellhousing that broke off. Look at the picture again,..

After intense reseacrh I found this potential fix.

Anyone familiar with this sort of repair, and is CMS a reputable company?

Thanks

Since you're car is a '92, maybe none - the 92+ cars had a fork w/nylon type bushings on it, all else the same, (same bearing end caps, etc.)

I've seen that break before , on this web site , long ago .
I think it ended up being welded up .

Have you seen / looked into a hydraulic T.O.B ?

That would be the hot ticket, but the question is what do you put in your 964.

I don't see nor come across any application for a hydrolic TOB for a 964, or at least a realistic one.

Thanks Indycam, very interesting option. I fear though that these may be very expensive option/fix with the hydraulic TOB.

I inquired about welding reinforced boss to the bellhousing and recived mixed feeling. I am starting to debate the prurchase of a new front cassing at $2400 + labor, but then I still have a OEM set up and peace of mind with a new piece.
I called CMS this morning and was quoted $999 for diss/*** the trans + $600 welding 2 new boss', $450 for misc parts, $500 shipping both ways, and he assured me that he will find somthing else wrong with my 18 years old tranny that would most likely cost me another $1K for a grand total of approx $3500.

There is got to be a cheaper way,.... I am open to all option as lng as it it simple and chaep, and I dont mean duct tape here but reasonable money. I just finished sinking $11,750 into winter maintenance alone.

Thanks
